Title: Simple frontend???
Post by: Shaolin on November 13, 2006, 09:23:59 am
Hi, everyone. I'm looking for a very simple emulator frontend that will only be running an nes emulator. Basically all it has to do is list the playable games and hide the windows environment. Also I need to be able to control all functions simply from the keyboard. Displaying screenshots would be nice, but I'm using very old hardware, so really I'm looking to keep it simple so that it will perform smoothly. So far I've only tried gamelauncher, and I cant get it to run properly, there dont really seem to be any real instrustions at all. plus I would rather not display the name of the emulator. Anyway, if you guys have any ideas let me know. by the way I'm testing all of these front ends on a powerful xp machine, just so you dont think I'm using inferior hardware right now, thats not an issue. Thanks!

I use AdvanceMENU
http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/menu-readme.html

You can use it with any emulator (or app for that matter) and the controls can be fully customized.  On my cabinet, my control panel goes through a keyboard controller so the buttons are recognized as keyboard entries.  AdvanceMENU is great for this because you can assign any function to any button.  There are also various list visual options.  Take a look at the screen shots.

GameEx frontend is one of the easiest I've found and works well for almost any emulated console.

MALA is easy to set up, and gamecreature has made some awesome skins for it.
