Title: Is Wico out of Business?
Post by: mvolke1 on November 08, 2006, 04:58:20 pm
Wico's Web site is not running... http://www.wicothesource.com/

It says the domain has not been updated. I was going to order some speakers from them.

Yes, I'm afraid Wico are long gone. I'm surprised their site is still up.

Even if they were around... there's too many horror stories about ordering from them. Looks like their crappy service finally did them in...

Wico were left out in the cold when Happ and Suzo merged, but their site was still up until very recently for some reason.
Wico were in effect a USA distributor for Suzo.

I think RayB is closer to the real reason WICO went down.  Too many customer service problems due to poor staffing, long delays due to poor or non-existent inventories and so on.

Based on conversations with folks at HAPP, WICO was not "left out in the cold" due to the merger.  If you look at how many retailers there are of HAPP goods (of which I am one)  you'd see that HAPP is very much of the "more the merrier" mindset.  They had nothing to gain by WICO dropping dead, as they (with Suzo) supplied them with much of their goods.

WICO had the name recognition to help them turn large volumes, just not the "whatfor" to take advantage of it.
