Title: How to use this Kronus Wire Stripper/Cutter
Post by: rdowdy95 on November 05, 2006, 07:07:00 pm
Radio Shack Link (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?summary=summary&techSpecs=techSpecs&currentTab=summary&custRatings=custRatings&features=features&accessories=accessories&productId=2062787&support=support&tab=features)

That is the URL above.

I have used it for cutting wire.  How do I strip the wire.  I cannot get it to work properly.  It did not come with any instructions?  Here are some close up pics.  I tried sticking it in the hole and pulling but to no avail

also need some help with crimping.  I ave done some crimping but how much of the copper do I need to leave exposed.  Then I am sticking it into a female quick disconnect then crimping it down.  On this kronos thing it has like a bunch of little places on the lower red handle area where I can put this thing into crimp down.  Anyone have this tool and can do some training.

No No No!!! To strip with one of these you just lay the wire between the jaws at the top on both sides and then squeze the handles....  The jaws with the serated bit grip the wire and the jaws on the other piece pull the shielding off.

Fozzy thanks so much man.  LOL!!! I did it!

Now next question how mych should I strip off is a 1/4" good.  I am using the .187 disconnect.  Also when I crimp it on the tool has the crimper thing near the bottom and when I squeeze the handle it crimps does it matter which crimp shape I use.  It has one on there called auto which is good.

Great! you got it sorted on the stripping.

OK 1/4" is a bit short.... strip about 1/2" twist the strands together and fold it over so that you get twice the amount of bare wire in the disconnect before you crimp it. Auto is usually quite a large crimp... you might want to try the red or blue one.  You need to get a tight enough crimp so that it is very difficult (near impossible) to pull the disconnect off the wire by hand. That way, you've got the best possible electrical connection and it won't fail on you in the machine.

Thanks Fozzy I will try to crimp with the thing in the red or blue dot.  Thanks for all your help.  Once I do start wiring I will ready.  Still need to build the CP box, but no hurry.

What self-control Fozzy.  I couldn't have possibly passed up that obvious chance for a crude joke.  :laugh2:
