Title: Mala Not Starting With Windows??
Post by: BamBam on November 05, 2006, 04:58:04 pm
I recently tried to get Mala V.1.0 RC8 (Mame Command Line V.1.09) to automatically launch when my computer boots up.  I have turned the feature on within Mala and have even tried to load it through the Start up group within WinXP.
Is there some little switch somewhere that I missed??
Thanks

John

When you enable it I think you need to be 'administrator' as it changes something in th windows registry.

I could be wrong as I don't use that anymore. I have MaLa set up as the shell.

What do you mean by setting it as the shell? Sounds cool.
I have a dedicated cabinet that I use as my arcade and Jukebox.  The Jukebox side isn't fully ironed out yet.  Any suggestions on what Jukebox to use?  I recently upgraded Windows Media Center 11 and actually like it.

It basically means having MaLa(or any fe)  launch in place of windows explorer to hide windows.

Have a look here:

You probably don't want to do this if you are using your cab for other things too

Personally I like UncleT's  (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/board,22.0.html) and  SK Jukebox  (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/board,28.0.html)

Loadman,

I believe you need WinXP or greater to run it.  Sorry for the extremely late response.

To load MALA instead of the Windows desktop/environment:

Run regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Userinit
c:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe -----> d:\mala\mala.exe (change the path to your file). In the case that you wish to run one program or several programs even before MaLa starts (for instance, scripts), you have to edit the line like this: d:\mala\idle.exe, d:\mala\coindrop.exe,d:\mala\mala.exe that is, the path to the .exes in the order you wish (separated by a comma). This modification, if wrong, may cause your system not to start, so make a Ghost image backup of C:\ before.
