hey guys i wanna know if i can use a pc power supply as a replacement for a switching power supply??
i have plenty of pc atx psu's laying around can i use them instead of buying an arcade psu??
if so how can i do that is there is diagrams i should follow..

I guess it depends on the game you intend to use it for. Typically speaking, though, no. I don't think a PC's power supply will give the -5V that a lot of games need.
-
can i please have the wiring diagram..
-
That depends completely on the form factor of the PC power supply. There are several.

its an atx standard.psu..can u point me to the diagram please if there is one..
-
Google it.
BTW, there is no -5V.
Be careful.

Check JABBA's Supergun page -- he talks about cnonnecting a PC power supply to a JAMMA rig:
http://www.jabba.demon.co.uk/retroranch/
Direct link to the Microsot Word DOC containing his instructions:
http://www.jabba.demon.co.uk/retroranch/building_a_jamma_test_rig.doc
NOTE: Don't rely on wire colours -- use a multmeter to test voltages!
Cheers.

Sorry to just jump in... long time lurker, only posted a couple of times...
PC power supplies do have -5v, not off the connectors to components (hd, cdrom, etc)
but there is -5v on the motherboard connector...
Here's the motherboard connector pinout for an AT power supply...

That's an outdated AT power supply, though. What about ATX?

FWIW, I would use an AT over an ATX in this application everytime. No need to short pins.
But, here is the ATX pinout:
