Title: Securing joystick ball top...
Post by: MameJunkie on October 30, 2006, 04:55:47 pm
I have the Ultimarc J-Stick w/Ball top.

It seems to come loose after some play.
Would like to secure it so it doesn't come loose but still have take it off later.

I know there was discussion on securing it in a previous post but cant seem to find it.

Have you thought about a removable threadlocker compound (http://www.northernsafety.com/cart/cart.cfm?PROD_NUM=306-16555&ACTION=01)?

dunno... maybe some elmers white paper glue might help it stick, and still be removable  with force.

A good fix I learned while flying R/C aircraft is to use clear nail polish on threads. It is removable if need be. Can't get much cheaper than that.

you can pick up small tubes of loctite in a local autoparts store for 3 or 4 bucks.

If you do go that route get the blue not the red. The red generally requires a torch to remove which is not a good thing for the joystick. :o

MameJunkie,
Have you tried wrapping the threads with teflon tape?  It is that white "tape" that plumbers wrap around pipe threads to ensure a water-tight seal.

No...good idea...I have plenty of those lying around.
I'll also try Cornchip's idea of nail polish.

Thanks for all the info...I can play rough again : )

With most japanese joysticks (unsure about the ultimarc though I've heard it's made by sanwa) you simply get a flathead screwdriver to hold the bottom bit of the joystick, and turn the balltop as hard as you can. You can reverse turn to lossen the balltop. All sanwa and seimitsu joysticks I've seen are tightened this way. I've yet to see any balltop come loose after doing this.

Hope this helps...

I've tried that but either I didn't do it correctly or my joysticks cant be tighten like that.
