Post by: bsgamble on October 27, 2006, 06:08:03 pm
I just put in a new fan on my CPU because the old wasnt sufficient enough.  Well i dont know what it is that Ive done but when i turn the PC power on now the fan comes on as it should but NOTHING else is getting power (keyboard, mouse, etc.) What could it be?

May seem like a silly question but did you put the heatsink on the correct way and use thermal paste?
I've made the mistake in the past of putting the heatsink on incorrectly, it looked correct but burnt the CPU out in a matter of seconds.
Does the numlock light on the keyboard light up?

Well,
It is likely that your CPU go burnt, but when installing the heatsink did you do anything that may have grounded the Mobo?
Also, unplug the CPU fan and start the computer (if you get to the BIOS shut off the computer so you don't overheat).   If there is a short on the Fan it will caouse this.

I've had a few older boards that would not boot is the fan was connected to the system fan header instead of the CPU fan header.  Maybe check that.
