ive been playing with this all night, and all i can say is WOW!!
 :notworthy:

some helpfull hints courtesy of "PC Engine Fan X"

ROM COVERSION:

Click on the "convertor" file to get access to the "romcnv" program. One will need to convert such Mame CPS2 Rom so that the PSP can recognize it. Take the CPS2 Rom file and drag it on top of the "romcnv" program and it'll generate a bunch of files into the "temp" folder...upon successful completion of converted files -- it will be zipped up & placed in the "cache" folder.

Drag the zipped CPS2 Game Rom & place it into the PSP's "cps2psp" Rom directory of your CPS2psp test ver. 3 folder.

Also, drag & place the newly converted "zipped cache file" & place into the PSP's CPSpsp test ver. 3 directory's "cache" file (in the cps2psp file). Both Rom file & zipped up cache file must remain zipped up in order for the emu program to work properly.

Exit your PSP's USB utility program and proceed to the folder marked "memory stick" under the 'Game' icon and select the CPSPSP test 3 emu and hit button "X" to boot it up.

Your successfully uploaded CPS2 Rom + zipped cache file now is presented on the PSP screen with the title name of the game...press down to highlight it and press button "O" to boot it up.

To exit this CPS2psp Test version 3 emu program, simply hit the "Home" button on the PSP and it will ask you if you want to quit. Select "Yes" and hit button "X" to confirm and it'll take you back to the main PSP GUI (Graphical User Interface) screen.

CONFIGURATION:
Sorry about that above button input command which calls up the CPS2 menu setting...that is for adjusting the CPS2 "A & B" board setup. (One can adjust the game's arcade operator settings to their liking and save it directly to the Memory Stick Pro Duo itself for posterity.)

Here's the proper button input command to call up the main CPS2 Test ver. 5 emu program: Press and hold "Select" and "Start" at the same time to bring up the "Main Menu" screen.

Select Game Configuration by using the circle button which'll bring up a list of thirteen different options to choose from...

Select the "Stretch Screen" option output to either one of four different screen size adjustment options: Off (Original), 4:3, 24:17 or 16:9 aspect ratio. (Either 4:3 or 24:17 screen size option works best on the PSP screen given that it's native resolution is at a crisp 480 x 242 setting.) If you are playing with either CPS2 shmup roms of 19XX or Dimahoo, then the additional option to properly "Tate" will come up by selecting the "Rotate Screen" option -- select "No" to tate it to original arcade screen aspect orientation. (Otherwise, by selecting "Yes" option will display the game in "Yoko" mode.) Pick either option that best fits your needs. ^_~

The emu is VERY cool!  I've been messing with it for the past day and it's really very good.  The same developer also has a CPS1 and MVS emulator.  All VERY good.

Remember to look for one that's 2.71 or less and the old motherboard. That way you can go to 2.71, downgrade to 1.50, and use the new custom firmware that was released recently.

I have not seen any graphic glitches, dropped frames, etc in any of the CPS2 games I have tried on the PSP.

I agree.

The only glitch that I've found so far is the intro movie to SF Alpha 3. The game itself appears to play fine and at full speed.

I heard gamestop had something you can just snap on top of the dpad or something(dunno where I red about it)

You're not upgrading to 3.02 with this.  You're upgrading to a hacked firmware that retains all the awesome-ness of 1.5, but masks itself as 3.02.

It's the best of both worlds... and now you can play all your old PSX games on it too :)

It's totally reversible too if you ever want to go back to vanilla 1.5 for some reason.

HOLY $HIT just pimped my psp..now its 3.02 AND 1.5 :o
now I can FINALLY play the new metal gear op game. quick question, the popstation app will generate a single file called "EBOOT.PBP" and I just put that on the games directory and it will show up as hotshots golf. now how exactly do I have multiple ps1 games in there and how can I tell which is which ?? do I just rename the eboot file or something ??
Title: Re: CPS2 emulation for PSP!!
Post by: pointdablame on December 27, 2006, 06:13:35 pm
For each PSX game to work you need to put the EBOOT.pbp file and the keys.bin file in a folder.  You can name the folder whatever you want.

In order to play and save multiple PSX games that you have made using Popstation, you need to use a hex editor and edit the EBOOT.PBP file that popstation creates.  There are 3 strings in the file that need to be edited - one has the name of the game (Hot Shots Golf 2 with the copyright mark) and 2 with the Sony game serial (SLUSxxxxx) where the x's are numbers.  Alter those to match the new game you created and you will be able to save your games without overwriting other ones.  It will also change the game name of course.

If you want to get rid of the Hot Shots golf pictures, you need to create new pictures for whatever game you are converting.  I believe the file names are ICON.png, PIC0.png, and PIC1.png... or something similar.  Make them however you want, and then put them in the popstation folder with the ISO you are converting.  Once you convert, popstation will use those pictures instead of the Hot Shots Golf ones.

is there a gui for renaming the eboot ?? I can try hex edit for now. oh and just played raiden project and the emulation is full speed and everything looks great. I am missing chunk of graphic on the selection menu but nothing in game :cheers:

as for the picture, ICON.png, PIC0.png, and PIC1.png all 3 have to be same picture and standard 300x170. I can figure all this things out but I am posting so other people can use the info too.

nope, no GUI.  You have to hex edit it or deal with the game saves overwriting each time.

It's very easy though.  Just change the name and be sure to put "00" at any value that you don't need a character in.  You can also search online to look for the SLUS value

I seem to be having some problems with the CPS2 emulator and im not sure whats wrong.

I used the rom convertor to create the 'cache' rom (eg dimahoo_cache.zip)

I then transferred the converted rom to the cps2psp" Rom directory of the CPS2psp test ver. 3 folder

I also added the original CPS2 rom to the same folder before transfering the whole lot to my memory stick, i.e:

ROOT
     ||
   - GAME
          ||
        - CPS2PSP%
        - CPS2PSP
                  ||
               -  ROMS
                        ||
                     dimahoo_cache.zip
                     dimahoo.zip

The emulator loads fine and shows me the list of roms availiable. After selecting the rom it starts to load the parts of the rom until it tries to load the cache information data and i get the following error:

ERROR: Could not open file. "tile8_usage (scroll1 pen usage)"

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? My psp is 1.5 by the way.

Doh!  :dizzy:

Got is sussed, the _cache.zip needed to be in the cache folder! Figures huh?!

Part of the problem is that the cache folder isnt created until you run the emu. Oh well, got it running now and it works a treat  :D  :applaud:  ;D

Are there any CPS1 and MVS emu's that work as well? Wouldnt mind getting metal slug running on my psp.

(incedently, was the metal slug collection for the PSP ever released?)

Also what are the SNES and Genesis emulators like nowadays? Its a while since I tried any and there were quite slow last time i tried them.

Any suggestions for a SNES emu and a Genesis one?

Thanks.

There is supposedly a very good CPS1 and MVS emulator for PSP.  I believe they are from the same guy, or at least was built in conjunction with this CPS2 emu somehow.

Search for CPS1PSP 1.64 and MVSPSP 1.63final

I've been using s9xTYL for SNES emulation for a while now and like it.  They are likely even better now as I haven't updated in months and months.

I also tried DGEN a few months back, but don't recall how well it worked.  I haven't really used it since.  :dunno

I read that U.S. release slipped to 1/9/07 now but I see it listed at some retailers as 2/14/07.

Well with both MVS and PSX emulation now available, I don't suppose I have too much of a problem with those release dates.  ;D
