Title: My Skittles Commercial NOMINATED FOR A DGA AWARD! **************
Post by: koolmoecraig on October 24, 2006, 08:24:40 pm
It hasn't aired on TV yet but someone at the ad agency leaked it onto youtube.

I think this might be my favorite so far!

It is a funny commercial, but I first saw it several months ago.  Skittles definately has some funny/bizzare commercials.  I probably saw it on "The 20" which is a collection of behind the scenes of movies and tv shows along with random commercials that is shown in the 20 minutes before the movie starts in some theaters.

Heres another one of the funny/bizzare skittles commercials: http://gorillamask.net/skittles.shtml

The laundry commercial with the hot chicks was better.

Not when you hit on all three of the girls and not one of them returns your phone calls.

Atom, it's never aired in "public"(tv,movies etc).  If you saw it on "The 20" then I am getting screwed cause I never got paid.  I just happened to stumble upon it on youtube yesterday.  The production company won't give me dvd copy until it airs on TV.  Apparently someone at the ad company leaked it onto youtube or this is the new way that they test market.

That rainbow one is cool.

I know I've seen the commercial a couple of times, and since it probably never aired on tv, then it must of been airing on "the 20".  If your supposed to be paid for that, then I'd start raising a little hell.  And just so you know, "the 20" plays in Regal Entertainment Group theaters.

You are ABSOLUTELY positive?  What city are you in?  The more details I can get, the better.

Is "The 20" a hodge podge of stuff pulled from the net or is it actually purchased ad time?

Thank you for the heads-up!  I'm going to have my agent look into it.  If it pans out, i'll kick you a little something.

I'm positive, I've seen that ad a number of times and the more I think about it, the more I'm sure that I saw it during the 20.  They also play the sheep boy and the beard ones at the same time.  I saw it in Santa Clarita, CA at an edwards theater, but they most likely play the same "the 20" at all Regal Entertainment Group theaters, and it is purchased ad time.  You should look and see if they have a theater near you and go 20 minutes early to a movie and watch "the 20" and see for yourself.  I haven't been to that theater in over a month, so they may have changed it though.

Doing a search I see that its actually called "The 2wenty"

Heres an article talking about how Masterfoods is advertising skittles on "the 2wenty"   http://promomagazine.com/sampling/marketing_masterfoods_goodies_promoted/

Dude.  Thank you so much!

My agent is on it thanks to the info you provided.  The only thing that would make it even more solid is if you remember the movie title that you saw it before.  I know that's a stretch but i figured I would ask.

If I get paid, I'll send you an autographed headshot + $100.

Thanks again!

Can't you just mail him $101?   :laugh2:

How do you autograph a "headshot" ?  Jam a ball-point in the neck hole?

(played way too many FPS games....)

Funny commercial, BTW :)

I have no idea what movie/s I saw it at, but I think the last movie I saw at that theater was Talladega Nights, so I know it was at least couple months ago.  Some other movies I saw there before Talladega Nights was Superman Returns, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, and X-Men 3.  I don't know which ones it was showed at, but now you at least have a starting point for the type of movie it was aired at.

And don't worry about sending me money, just make sure that the next time you have an opportunity to help out a board member, do it  ;D

That thing has been posted on youtube for about 5 months and has over 15,000 hits.  You really think I could have waited that long to self promote it on here?

They don't hand you a copy of your commercial when you are done shooting.  It's all in the production companies and agencies hands.  Actors aren't given much regard after it's in the bag.  Example: Airing it without paying me.

Also, if you look closely in the bottom right hand corner you can see a watermark that says "The Ad Age Group"

It could be that the standard contract doesn't pay him (or anyone else) for internet usage... so that's how they use the ones that don't get aired.

Post by: koolmoecraig on October 26, 2006, 01:20:39 pm
If they pay to air it(anywhere), they have to pay me.  Airing before a movie is considered "Industrial" usage.  It's not uncommon.

If they post it on their own website, they have to pay me.

By "they" I mean the product.

But they don't have to pay you to leak it to youtube.

Nope.

This is one of the many, many reasons why youtube is going to get sued like crazy.

Well, not now.  Now that it has that big G on it, it will survive anything anyone could ever throw at it.

It's true.  I've seen my little brother on TV twice before he ever saw the commercial he was in.  One of them, after three or four years, he still hasn't seen.  It always catches me off guard.  I'll be watching TV and suddenly look at my wife and say, "Is that Zach!"  Then I call him and tell him I saw him and he starts asking questions like what channel was it on and what time of day was it on and what show were you watching, so he can hopefully catch it.

Ha!  That sounds exactly like me.  He's is also probably asking those details because you get paid more when it is on a network channel as opposed to cable.

Yeah it is.  I'm just picturing koolmoecraig nuding up in front of his telly Buffalo Bill style singing along to a Skittles jingle - mangina styling.

Oh, I thought you were kidding...

That was all done with green screen effects.  It was actually a bit of a ---smurfette--- to shoot since we had to line up our eye-lines without knowing what his final size would be.

I got Groenings auto but all he did was sign a jpeg with a wacom tablet.  Didn't figure you wanted that.

FYI....

Just saw this commercial on Cartoon Network about 10 minutes ago ( 2/10/2007 7:27PM EST) as I was flipping through the channels.  First thing I thought of was this thread here.

Don't know if you are getting paid yet but if not hopefully this info can help out.
