i was just thinking back on weird arcade games that i haven't seen in a long while
does anyone rememeber this one?
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=10124
it's a halographic game made by the people of dragon's layer and produced by sega
i can only imagine how terrible it really was
but for some reason, all i have is fond memories
i wonder if it's any good
anyone here play one recently and can clue me in to how it works?
i'm assuming that it's just like dragon's layer

I can tell you that the PC translation of that game has the dubious honor of having PC Gamer's lowest score ever, got 5% or so.
-
Quite a popular game in its day. Yes it was cheesy. Yes, it ate quarters like a sumo wrester at a buffet. Would I put it in my gameroom? In a heartbeat!
There were several other games made for this cabinet. I remember playing a not so great fighting game in a holoseum cabinet. Can't remember the name though.
-
Digital Leisure, a sotware company ate up all the rights for this game, and other laserdisc games and rereleased them in different formats so you can play it on your pc or dvd player...

You can see screenshots and a trailer for the game (and other laserdic games) on this link.

oyy, haven't thought about those things in years. Funny how this forum can make you bring out stuff from way back in the memory file cabinet.
I always did want one of those related mirror toys when they had them at sharper image or brookstone:

Please don't tell me I was the only one too mesmerized by these games to actually play them back then. I would put in the quarter, wave my hand through the hologram, laugh real hard, then die. Hardly even played the game. But those hologram people looked awesome!
Something on Dragon's Lair 1 & 2, just sat there amazed.

There were several games made for it. TravisT on this forum had one for a while. Got it for like a hundred bucks. Big sucker. I remember finding the games hard to play because you were trying to make a joystick work in an 3d way. I never remember paying only a quarter for the game though. They had one at the Fountasia Golf n Games. It cost like 3 tokens to play.
Back in the day of doing things I ought not do, I remember playing (trying to play) this thing while peaking on vitamin A. I remember being more entertained by trying to grab the little people than the game it's self. We all thought it was real funny. Now, much more clear headed, I think we were a little stupid. Ahhh youth.

I've only heard of two. The Time Traveller game and Holoseum (crappy fighting game).
The effect is neat but it's not true holography. It's just an optical illusion created with a curved mirror.
-
A plastic parabolic mirror. There was a thread in main about it a while back, dude bought one and in shipping they cracked the mirror on him, snapping a piece off. We debated various methods, I think the guy gave up on it IIRC.
It was only Time Traveler and Holloseum. Very unique games, I would have one if I could find one with an intact mirror. Sits pretty wide, takes up more footage than a standard cab but less than a pin.

Yup, thinking back through it, I only remember the 2.

That's Travis. He eventually sold it. If he got it together, he was going to make a collection of games that had only black for a background (DK, Galaga...) because it would lend it's self to the illusion. He just could not resolve the crack issue. Plus the thing was a beast.

There was a holosseum for sale here in Utah last week. It was in good shape too. I was looking at buying it but the cost of converting it back to a Time Traveler was going to be a pain since Holosseum is not a Laser Disc game.
Time Traveler is my "Holy Grail" game. I know it's not the funnest game, but it is the most unique.

I beg to differ. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boonga_Boonga) ;)

relevance? wrong link? ???

sorry, link fixed.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that game. :dizzy:
You can't get anymore unique than that game.

I think this was the first game I'd ever seen with a bill acceptor on it. Always a crowd around the machine. Remember those little foam shapes glued in the background? They always went missing, just leaving a hot glue clump.

I think everyone whose seen this joke before knew exactly what you were going to post, and then you had to throw a curveball with the golf link. I was figuring it was some inside golfer joke or something. ;D
-
First machine I saw a bill collector on was Dragon's Lair... and it was $1/credit while everything else was still a quarter.
-
While on the subject of high priced games, I believe galaxians 3 was like $4 for a special coin to play it. I may be wrong though
And now back to the regularly scheduled program.
-
Galaxian 3 wasn't anything like a standard arcade cabinet. It was a large room sized movie "ride".

So what's your point?

Conversation. Have some, it's all over the place.

You pay for ambience.
