Title: Tag is banned
Post by: ChadTower on October 20, 2006, 08:27:01 am

This (http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2006/10/18/attleboro_elementary_school_bans_tag/) is only a couple miles from me and I know people with kids at this school...

Sad, sad, sad, sad.  I hear next they may ban being upright.

Well since a highschool kid was stabbed and killed a few miles from me yesterday in my opinion going to school is dangerous and they should ban that too.

They should just put all of the kids in those sumo suits and let the frolic around in a padded room during recess. :laugh2:

Just got this in a local email list discussing it:

Quote
Now for the sad parts, reporters in unmarked vans were pulling up to the walking students and trying to talk to them.  Children were terrified.  Reporters attempted to gain entry to the school without permission.  Reporters staked out the PTO meeting blocking off parts of the street to leave the Willett area.

I really wonder where the Police were during all of this...

The cops were all out playing tag, obviously.

Tag, dodgeball, what's next? Free thinking?

I played all those when I was a kid in school in the early 1960's.

Seriously, the principal at that school that banned tag should be immediately fired.

The only defense they've come up with is "too many kids running around on a small paved area".

Uh, yeah... that's a pretty good way to describe life.

My guess is that Jump-rope is the next to go, they can be used as a weapon... I'm glad my days on the playground ended before everyone turned into wussies

Amen to that.  I think back to 5th and 6th grade - after school tackle football.  No idiotic safety rules, just kids having fun.  Granted we did have our share of injuries (bloody noses, sprained ankles, broken bones) but that is part of growing up and experiencing things.

I miss playing tackle football on the playground after school-nothing like a full-speed tackle to stop a runaway touchdown. I don't remember us ever ending up with anything more serious than the occasionaly sprain or bloody nose, but we sure had a hell of alot of fun.

I wonder if this is just a result of idiots misunderstanding what they heard of other schools banning "Tag".

Tag the body spray, not the game.

I've heard of schools in Toronto banning it, cuz too many idiot teenage boys were stinking up the school by constantly using the stuff. (Just goes to show that YES, if a commercial makes it look like using a product will get you laid, yes some idiots will use it "just in case it works".)

I've used that axe crap before. That stuff smelled like butt, and no, my then GF (now wife) was NOT impressed.

They banned dodgeball, touch football, and several other things too.  Things that they called "exclusionary or that encourage touching".

At my sons school all forms of touching have been banned. You cannot even shake hands.

guess that kills a good game of "Red Rover", too.....

geez.... wtf's wrong with people?

Also....  is Kickball going out, too?  All the times I got hit in the head with the ball trying to catch it (and loved every minute of it, too, darnit!)....

Are you saying you have enjoyed lots of balls to your head?

While trying to catch it?

They probably banned it because they were afraid of kids using it as an inhalant. For that same reason, white out and sharpie markers are not allowed in my school.

I suspect sharpies are banned because if you put one in the hands of a kid they somehow can not resist writing all over everything they come across.

Well, if they're not called, how are they supposed to know that trouble is abound at the PTO meetings?    ::)

 :soapbox:

Another sad chapter in the wussification of this country.  What in the WORLD are these kids going to do when they get to play real sports?

We are witnessing the beginning of the end of sports in this country, most likely.  Overstated, you say? Think about it.  We can't have tag because it's  "dangerous"...and so little Billy-Bob goes to high school and gets planted in the face with a baseball...and suddenly baseball is banned because it is too dangerous, etc. etc.

Makes me want to puke.  I was not great at these games but I made my OWN decision to sit out some days - didn't need a suit telling me what to do.

This is stupidity raging out of control

Ayup.  Lawyers and liberals will be the death of this great country within our lifetimes.  Sad but true.   :(

Hey . . . Love it or leave it!  Why don't you just move to France if you hate America so much?  America hater.   :laugh2:

I swear to god, the person who bans tag and football and dodgeball, etc., is just asking for a Columbine.  Recess is the only good thing a lot of kids have.  What kind of grinch would want to ruin recess.  It's one of the things that makes me hate adults.  They grow up and seemingly have absolutely no idea whatsoever what it's like to be a teenager or a kid, even though they have years upon years of first-hand experience that they could draw from if they wanted to.  It is this human failing that allows them to do stupid ---Cleveland steamer--- like banning tag or supporting abstinence only education.

Well, heres how I see it:

The folks who want to ban recess, or teach abstinence, were the kids that sat in the corner by themselves during recess, playing with sticks in the dirt, and didn't get laid much anyway once they were older.

A local woman who was quoted in some of these articles defending tag has been harrassed and threatened over the internet, via telephone, and in person.  Enough that the Police have had to get involved.

That's taking it a bit far, I would think.  She's not even involved in implementation.  All she did was talk about it.

Jim probably had a quarter pounder sitting next to the can of Axe.

I think this is the best reason to avoid it:

Idiots.  All of them.  The real issue is the sue happy people that have been kept down for so long that they are revolitng through the only real means they have to assert their rights which is of course through the courts.

That's a bummer.
