I just realised I spend much more time 'tinkering' with settings and hardware on/for my cab than actually playing games. :-[
Am I alone? :o

Ye-ah, I find myself tinkerin' far more than gaming. But when I get the time, I play..

Same loadman. I think it's the pursuit of perfection. I've been working on my cab on and off for nearly a year and it's still not quite fully set up yet.
I prefer to play when I have friends around, so I like to tinker with it in my spare time.

That is true of me too, other wise I would get too good and win all games

I actually started on my cabinet to relieve my need to tinker with computers. Ever since I got a mac I don't spend anymore time getting my computer to "work" anymore. For a while I enjoyed the ease - but then I started to miss having to fix problems on my computer anymore.
So I built an arcade cabinet running windows. :)

I don't have time to play either. :(
The only good configuration ready play on my cab is under DOS, using Advmenu and a old DMAME.
All windows ones i have are just some tests configuration for Atomic. I didn't have even a roms matching with mame version i use!!!

I'm the same way. I have 3 cabs, for over three years, and probably have played a total of less then 10 hours and tinkered hundreds of hours. I have always though it's a control freak issue. We seem to like something that we can control (although this isn't always the issue in a MS environment).

After I finished my cab I sealed it up and didn't open it until I bought a coin door. I added the coin door and sealed it again. I built the cab for my kids. We all love to play on it. I was talking about building a 2nd cocktail cab and my wife said she wanted a sit-down driver! Guess what my next project will be!
I recently suffered a hard disk crash on the cab and am in the process of rebuilding the OS and interface. I will be posting my step-by-step OS/FE installation soon. I'm also taking this opportunity to refresh my ROMs and apps to the latest.

I do both - there's no option for that.
The cab is for playing games (the games are more fun and, somehow, easier to play with the right controls), but I'm always updating and adding more to it.
Last night I added Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp (best $0.99 I ever spent) to the Daphne roster. :)

Myself I pull the developer card, in that after I change ANYTHING in any of my programs I have to "test" my machine to make sure it still works. ;) If it wasn't for all this testing I'd never play.

I mostly tinker with my cabinet. An arcade cabinet is a tinkerers dream..there are just so many directions you can go with it.
-
You can actually play it yourself??? No no that is only for other people.

My name is John and I suffer from "Tinkeritis". I too am in pursuit of perfection. Three years and counting for my cab. I was also planning cabinet number two while working on number one. My wife just gives me one of these ::)
I do, however, always find time for Galaga and Centipede.
My spouse has taken an interest in the pinball side of things sio thats a good thing.
I am off to the Ottawa Classic gaming show today to see if I can find something cool to add to the gamesroom.

I think I have more fun tinkering than playing
