Hey guys I cut my coin door opening out today. Thing fitted on the first try. A tad bigger, but the coin door covers up all openings.
My question is this, what kind of screws should I use. I want to use black ones since the coin door is black. The coin door I have is at this website. It is the Happ over/under coin door.
http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/40051400.htm And I think they shoud be the rounded top screws since the flat head ones will prolly not look right.

Originally, they used black stovebolts so you couldn't unscrew them from the front.
-
They have square holes in them for carriage bolts.

So this will have the nuts on the other side of the coin door right?
Any idea what size?
-
I'm not sure.
I'd wait until you get it, and then hit Home Depot.
-
I've already got it, I guess I just need to put some paper over the hole and put a pencil through it, then take the paper to Home Depot and see what size of carriage bolt I will need.

Bring the whole thing to Home Depot. It might save you a second trip. ;)

Usually 1/4 inch diameter

divemaster sells black carriage bolts that would work for you. You won't find them at Home Depot.
-
I will go up there and check. Man I really don't want to pay dive for them, but I may have to go that route.
Thanks guys!
-
Menards may have them then. They have a wider variety of small hardware than Home Depot.
A "regular" hardware store would carry 1/4".
-
I will also check my local Ace Hardware see what they have. If anything I can paint the end of the bolt black.

TRUE DAT!
I spent lots of time at Home Depot looking for these things. I bought some from Divemaster when I placed another order. I did have to spray paint some black.

1/4" Carriage bolts can be found at just about any hardware store. Just paint them black or use gun bluing compound on them.

I considered this. Unfortunately, by the time you buy the screws and the bluing compound and did all the work, you could have just bought a bunch from divemaster for the same price without the work. The bolts he sells are very nice, and for 0.25
I've found that doing things the homebrew way and scrimping and saving usually ends up in an inferior product, and just as much money out of pocket. ;D

Carriage bolts from a hardware store will have markings stamped on the head. If you want the smooth headed bolts used on original arcade cabinets order from an arcade specialist. The vendor Divemaster was mentioned earlier in this thread and I recommend The Real Bob Roberts. A link to Bob's webpage is available from the links page off of the main BYOAC page. For the proper size measure the distance between two opposite sides not corner to corner. I Have the Happ over under mini door (part # 40-0513-00) and it appears to be 3/16 so according to http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/Machine-Screw-Diameter.aspx (http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/Machine-Screw-Diameter.aspx) I would need a #10 carriage bolt of the appropriate length. BTW For the price we pay Happ for these new coindoors they should include mounting bolts.
-
For the prices Happ charges, they should send a stripper to your house to install them.
-
Doh! The .25 inch ones were a tad too big. I will try the 3/16 ones. I will go to my local Ace Hardware. They may have the smaller ones. If not Divemaster will be getting an email.
Yeah you would figure they would include the stinking carriage bolts. Man these projects cost cash!!! A whole lot of cash!

fyi, bob roberts does not do paypal.

what is this guys website. I tried typing in bobroberts.com realbobroberts.com
What is his website? Can you order anything from it?

Yep, his how to wire your cab and the what to do with your jamma harness was INVALUABLE to me a few years ago when I did my first cab. I did not even mind having to write a check and mail it to him after that.

This is true in so many ways, but we are talking about bolts, not a used trackball or 30 year old monitor. :)
By the posts in this thread, you'd think these things are impossible to find. Every hardware store I've looked in has 1/4 carriage bolts, and Pyle on the West Side near where you work carries 3/16. If you go to the hardware store at least a couple times a week like I do, or are just passing by anyway, why wait a few days by ordering them?
I agree, maybe on a CP or something it is more important, and I order the black ones occasionally too, but I also have bought a LOT of carriage bolts from the local hardware stores (usually, I am using them silver and not black, but I have painted them a few times when needed). A lot of games use the silver ones originally, too.
I'm used to having to paint or blue hardware though because so many of my games have security torx that I HAVE to refurbish (I haven't found found anyone selling them, mail order or not. Anyone here know sources??)
TTYL!
