Title: SCUMM, DOSBOX and low res modes with ARCADEVGA
Post by: Gradius on October 18, 2006, 08:54:39 am
I'm using SCUMMM and DOSBOX under XP. I can set these programs not to use high res modes with stretching. However, at full screen they seem to work at 321x240, no matter if I set another res for the desktop such as 336x240. I would prefer to use this res or other because the aspect ratio is closer to the original in 320x200 (old DOS games). Is there any way to achieve this? The only solution up to know is to use the monitor or the service menu of my tv to adjust the vertical size of the picture. Thanx.

Use ScummVM (http://www.scummvm.org/) instead.

It's SCUMMVM the one that I'm using.

You don't need DOSBox to run ScummVM, it has a windows version. In fact I don't think ScummVM even has a DOS version, so how you got it working in DOSBox is a mystery to me.  :dunno

Sorry I didn't explain it well. I mean I have the same problem with both programs, independently.

Not really sure as I don't use an ArcadeVGA card, but you could try the following with ScummVM. Create a file called scummvm.ini in your ScummVM folder

Code: [Select]
[scummvm]
gfx_mode=super2xsai
fullscreen=true
aspect_ratio=true
versioninfo=0.9.0
savepath=C:\ScummVM\Saves

Try setting the aspect_ratio option to true. Not sure if that will help, but give it a go. There are more options in the official ScummVM readme (http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/scummvm/scummvm/tags/release-0-9-0/README)

Headkaze: I couldn't find anything on google on this and it's bugging me.  It's the same question he asked.

I am not interested in using upscaling filters.  If I change my desktop resolution to 320x240 and play in window mode, the old games look amazing and crisp.  As soon as I go into full screen it shoots it up to 640x480.  when I use the upscaling filter like you suggested the image becomes dull and muddy on my d9800 i dont want to play stuff like that.  The lower res I can see screen texture and pixel glow and your suggestion looses that.

I can't find anything in the readme or online about changing the default full screen from 640x480 to something else.  And I'm sure I'm not the first person who wants native resolution.  Suggestions ?

Maybe try the "normal" scaling mode?
