Title: Mala and Ultimarc Ultrastik
Post by: csa3d on October 16, 2006, 06:37:14 am
Is there a way in Mala to switch the Input Map on the Ultrastick to the correct mapping upon selecting a game from a gamelist?  If so, what is the process of setting this up?  I did some light searching on the boards and couldn't find anything right off the bat.

Thanks for any insight you have on this.  I really like Mala and am considering rethinking my original P360 decision.

You can use the so called encoder programming for this purpose.
Enable and configure it on options->controller->encoder and then configure the MAME options on the tab MAME config->encoder.

If you use a game based programming of the stick and no config file for the game (romname.ext) is found MaLa will use the default config file for MAME/this emulator.

Good to know!  So sounds like there's some manual "doings" to create the config per game.  Once that's done it's smooth sailing?

Interesting.  Could you help a poor soul out with a little more detail on how I would do this?  Also, is there a way to make it set the controller settings back to something sane like 4-way after exiting the game?

Thanks!

I haven't even purchased a stick yet, so I'm not completely sure how the whole thing works.  I was curious as to what happens if I am in 4 way mode, then I switch to another emulator (like NES) that needs 8 way mode.  How does that work?  I suppose I need to configure some default per emulator.  This is probably completely obvious once you actually buy the stuff and mess around.  Guess that's what I get for trying to speculate ;)

Right, you create a config file for every emulator and/or game. And you create a config file for MaLa which is loaded when you quit an emulator.
When you start a game and use game files MaLa will try to load the file for the started gamed. If this file is not found MaLa will use the emulator file instead.
