Title: touchscreen games
Post by: jimjim on October 15, 2006, 11:45:45 am
I just purchased a touchscreen monitor to put into a bartop that I am building.  I want to use it for the jukebox.  I realize that any game that uses a mouse and click function the touchscreen would work on, I was just wondering what PC or emulated games would fully take advantage of the touchscreen.  Does anybody have a cab with a touchscreen?  What cool things have you done with it?

So far I've come up with:
jukebox
slot machines

The Merit brand "Megatouch" bartop games are very popular in taverns.

Yea, but are they emulated?   :P

Here is a link for some free touchscreen games.   Quality varies from poor to passable but they are free.

Megatouch games have been talked about before, they are PC games so there is no need for emulation.  They are very heavily protected by hardware and software so they won't be usable in the near future unless someone breaks the protection.

I have a touchscreen and have used a lot of games from the following two sites:-

http://www.reflexive.com/

These games are payware, but some of them are very good.

I would recommend:-
Puzzle Word
Bejewelled Deluxe
Chuzzle Deluxe
5 Card Poker

But how would the front end work?

But how would the front end work?

I've worked at a college before where we installed a touch-screen monitor for those with not-so-good motor skills.  You double tap on the monitor like a mouse tap, and drag your finger or whatever you will across it to move the pointer.

Having the bartop touchscreen set up for a little while, I really like the Real Deal slots and video poker for a little grown up action.  (The only problem is that you at some point need to input the amount with a keyboard because there is no virtual keypad.  I have a wireless keyboard with the receiver being inside the cab.)  I also have Winbox set up as my jukebox program.  It works great with a touchscreen.

I currently have Mala running as the frontend, but I'm going to probably give Gameex a try.  I have been goofing around with it on my regular computer.  It seems to be more touchscreen friendly.  Mala runs great, I use my joysticks, and buttons to navigate it.

I'll come up with a list of all the games that I like to play that work well with a touchscreen.  I've tried a lot of hit and misses.

I want to do exactly what you have done and am planning on using GameEx as well.  It should work perfectly IMO.  Would you post pics or plans of your cab?  I am having difficulty coming up with a good plan that isn't too large as far as the cab is concerned.
