Today (Friday Oct 13) was the Wii preorder day for EB and Gamestop. In the morning, there were 3 people camped out... just for an opportunity to maybe get a Wii.
I waited a half hour in a line at a gamestop that was getting the biggest number in the area (in a mall) but there were too many people. They were giving out 10 at that location and I was #16.
The other locations in the area only had 8 a piece. I figured they would have more since they have been boasting such large numbers of available consoles at launch.
Anyone else try to preorder today?

I just called a couple gamestops near me and they said they were sold out of the pre-orders as soon as they opened. If nintendos estimates are correct in the number of Wii's available at launch, then there shouldn't be much problem getting one at or around launch time anyways.

Hot stuff. The Gamestop I went to had 14 PS3 pre-orders but only 8 Wii. ??? Got a PS3 res in but was a few people past the cut off for a Wii.

Probably will have to wait for a long time in an even longer (and colder) line for those... but at least you will walk away with something other than a runny nose.

Yeah . . . I figure Wii will be sold out on day one, but shelves will be replenished shortly and frequently between launch day and Christmas. It really doesn't sound like getting a Wii requires a preorder.

According to the unsolicited spam that I got from Gamestop, even if you preorder & put down a deposit you're still not guaranteed to get one. I hardly see the point. Like Shmokes said, they'll be readily available before long anyway.

I got one. I was 3rd in line but only had to wait for 20 minutes. There is a very new GameStop in my town and there are 6 more on the highway nearby so I figured everyone would be at one of those and I was right!

Last estimates I heard were 1 million units available in North America on launch day and 4 million units worldwide before the end of the year (with most sent to Nor. America). If all of those sell out in the first hour or so they're available, then Nintendo should easily win this generation's console war. I have a feeling that you'll be able to buy a Wii on launch day without waiting in long lines and without a preorder, if not, then I'm willing to wait a week or two for the next shipment to come in.
Just to give a point of reference, Sony is estimating 400,000 on launch day and the 360 had only 1.5 million available worldwide by the end of the first year.

The Gamestop I went to only had 14 pre-orders. I managed to get one, but I am not sure how lucky I was.
I was number 13, and of course this was on Friday the 13th. :)

Bruce Wii doesn't take kindly to that suggestion.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the fact that Toys R Us is having preorders for the Wii and PS3 starting tommorrow. If you feel you absolutely must have one of the systems on launch day, then this may be your last chance to get a preorder.
