Title: Coin Door Light Wiring Question
Post by: codeena on October 12, 2006, 06:58:45 pm
Hi all,

I'd like to extend wires from my coin door lights' to my pc's molex cables that will power the lights. Can I just splice and use a PC power cord's wires to use as an extension, or would this be dangerous (different gauge, etc.)? Does it matter which of the 3 wires I use, if it's okay? Thanks in advance!

What voltage are your lights? You can bring 5v or 12v from your power supply (red or yellow wires respectively) easily. So you pick a color, and the black is your ground.

Hi Aurich, thanks for the reply. The 12v lights to work fine connected to the pc, but need to extend the wires from the lights to the pc. So I was wondering if a pc power cable would serve well as the extension wires.

I think just some standard 18 or so gauge wire and some wire connectors should be all you need.
