Title: Detachable CP - but basically a mouse pad
Post by: Dervacumen on October 12, 2006, 09:36:53 am
I have a detachable CP and need to build a second.  Thing is, I really want it to be very basic, essentially a large mouse pad.  This one will have a USB port to plug in a mouse, and maybe two buttons on it to serve as mouse buttons.  The rest will be empty.

The idea is to allow my kid to learn how to use the mouse while playing educatinal games.

So the question is, what are some ideas for overlays that will work well with an optical mouse?  I don't want to get plexiglass or lexan since it will get scrathced up very quickly, and it's fairly expensive for what I'm looking to do with this cp.

If you use an optical mouse, your overlay choices are pretty limitless.

Very true, but I'm looking for the feel of an older mouse pad that has some texture but still glides well.  I still use an old Max Payne mousepadwith a Microsoft mouse because I like the feel.  I think it gives some tactile feedback which I'm guessing is important for a very little kid.

I don't think she would do well with something too slick, or something too rough.

What do they cover these older mouse pads with?

My 4-year old daughter seems to do fine with my optical mouse.

Use the back side of fabric vynal.  It will have the same texture and feel to the old mouse pads that i remember
