I was able to get AtomicFE up and running...like really fast! It is a neat front end. I'm learning how to tweak the settings now. I was able to change layouts with no problem 1st try...Nahh ok, 2nd try. Other similar FE's I have found to be impossible for myself to even get runnning correctly. Keep in mind that I'm not the sharpest tool on the shed.

One question for AtomiFE...Where exactly do I select music for background and that type of thing? Can't seem to find it in the manager. Oh and can I use my controller or joystick to select games up down and select?....Thanks!!

ATOMICFE Great FE  :applaud:  :notworthy:

Thanks a lot.  :)

Concerning the background music.  the Background music is "attached" to a layout.
So if you want change (or put) a background music , you have just to copy (or replace) a mp3 file and name it : Bkmusic.mp3 in the layout folder.

If despite the fact you have a file BkMusic.mp3 in the layout folder , you don't have the music , it is may be because the music is disabled in your config.  In that case , open you config with AtomicManager.exe , click on "advanced options" , then go on the "Option" tab  and on the sub tab "options 1"  and check "Enable layout's Background Music if available" check box.

Concerning Controller , yes you can. But Basic Joystick support is poor in Atomic. You can go up /down the   list , select game, run game..etc...  but you can not for instance  Add game to Favorite list , or access other features.

If you want do that with your controller , you will have to use a tool called Joy2Key (or JoyToKey) , that makes react your joystick as a keyboard.

OK......
When using the atomic manager, i save as atomic.cfg like it says. Then using multiconfigwizard, follow the steps, try to choose config, it's not there!
Whats up with that.

The multiconfigwizard does not use atomic.cfg.  It makes its own multiconfig or modifies one already made.  Depending on what you are trying to do you may not have to use the multiconfigwizard at all.  For example if you use plug and play modules you do not need the multiconfigwizard at all.  You would use the plug and play manager to make any changes that you want.  You use the multiconfigwizard if you want to set up categories in mame or you want to set up other emues manually.  There is a how to for the multiconfigwizard in the docs folder.
Hope this helps.

You can use the multiconf_wizard and Plug'n play module , if you need to add your own configuration to the plug'n play one. (For instance, if you want add an emulator that didn't exist in plug'n play module).

To do that , you have :

-First disable all plug'n play module, with the plugnplaymanager.exe  .
-Use the multiconf_wizard to make your configuration and Atomic to test it.  (you won't see plugnplay module when you will start Atomic, only the configuration you are building)
-Once you configuration is ok and works ,  run plugnplaymanager.exe again.
-Re-enable all your module , and click on "ADD existing config" button. Then select the "Main.cfg" config of the multiconf generated by the multiconf_wizard.
-Then run Atomic, you will see all your module and your configuration.

Youki,
I have got it load with games. But the screen is sideways. And do i have to config the keys? The only keys working are 1 and enter and up down. 1 and enter turn the screen normal for about five seconds then it switches back to sideways.

Run AtomicManager, and on the General tab, verify the screen orientation is set to vertical. There are two settings, so try one, and if that does not display correctly, try the other. Make sure that you have your .cfg file loaded (if you changed it from the default).

You should not need to define any keys, but here is the default keyset:

Arrow Up/Down - > Navigation in the list
Arrow Left/Right - > Navigation in the list page up/down (or alphabetical, depending on your config)
"1" or "&" or "Enter" (NOT on the numeric keypad) - > Play the selected game
"Q" -> Display History.dat entry for selected game

If the UserList (Favorites) is activated:
CTRL: Add the selected game to the list
ALT: Remove the selected game from the list
SPACE: Switch between the standard list and user list

If there is a configuration change with on the fly changes activated:
"A": Open/Close the list of available configurations
"1" or "&": Load the selected configuration

In multiconfiguration mode:
"1" or "&" or "Enter" - > Access the selected menu item
"2" or "E" or "BackSpace" - > Return to the preceeding menu

Thanks Havok,
But no change :hissy:
When i hold down "1" when trying to select a game, the screen flips to normal and will stay there untill i release it. I noticed at the top of the screen that it displays my atomic fe file path. And on top of my games list it has some kind of ERROR message. I can tell something is infront of it but don't know what it is becuase the screen is off center.
Sorry, i'm such a newb

Sounds like you don't have your paths correct. Open the cfg file again in AtomicManager, and click on the Folder tab. Double-check where everything is pointing. I would recommend that even if they look correct, hit the button to the right and actually re-browse to them.

Just to make sure that the list is re-built, I would also recommend clicking on the General tab, and hit "Purge self-generated game list" so Atomic re-builds the list with the directories you specified.

Make sure to Click Save on the bottom when you are done, and fire up Atomic. You should get a momentary delay while Atomic builds the game list.

Hopefully that works for you!

** Edit **

I just re-read your posts: what config are you running now? Do you have a custom multi-config, or are you using a plug and play module, or just starting a new cfg from scratch?

Can you post your cfg file? Just re-name it to .txt and add it under the Additional Options...

Hi

I didn't really understand what you are doing.   So let me summarize.

-You are trying to make your own Simple config
-You used AtomicManager  , sets your path and etc....
-When you run Atomic
      -Atomic screen is rotated?
-When you run the game the game  you see a message with the path? (rotated or not)

The message you see, it is surely that you try to run a bad rom.  (the rom is not at the correct Rom Set level)

For the orientation problem. That 's strange, as said havok, the paremeter for the orientation is on the General Tab.

What layout do you use?

Can you look in the file  config.Atomic  ,  it points to file.  Can you open the file pointed (with the notepad) a put the content here?

Thanks

havok,
Here ya go
ConfigName=C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\AtomicFE\leonsbitch3\Main.cfg

Youki,
It will open no games. I have 32 games, all work in mamewah. I use arrow keys to move up down the list 1 to select, it makes screen normal for 5 seconds, then it goes back sideways. Some games i choose and it will exit atomic and take me back to windows desktop. :dunno

Thanks guys
it's not the software, it's the newb

Hi,

Let start from the begining.

-First , try to install AtomicFe in the default folder .
-Don't store atomic config in folder where there is some "space" in name. (like Document and Settings , it could cause problems , in certain case).

Now  , start from a clean AtomicFE install.  (so reinstall it to be sure)

-Open AtomicManager.exe
-Go on the Folder Tab.
-Make point ROM folder to your roms folder
-Make point Default Emulator field to your MAME.EXE   (NOT FAKEMAME i provide)
-SAve and Close.

Run Atomic.exe .  You should see your game a be able to run it.

Don't go further , if you can not manage to make that configuration runs.

Once this configuration is ok.

-Open AtomicManager
-Do additional setting you would like. (change layout, set some options , etc..etc..)
-Save and close

Run Atomic.exe , and verify that is work as you want.

Then , if you really need to use the multiconf wizard (to sort your game by category, but with only 32 games not sure it is necessary)

-Follow the tutorial that is in the doc folder. and As Template Configuration choose the configuration you just made.

Then it should work.

May i suggest as you are newbie , to try a plug'n play module?

There are very easy to use.  You have just to copy your roms in a given folder.

Thank you Youki.
I did as you said and every thing is working finenow. :applaud: :notworthy:
i had the same problems for a couple minutes then noticed the mame folder had an extra letter in the name.
Fixed that and same problem. I then noticed i did not set as start config.  Now it works. ;D
Thanks Youki.
