Title: Lame 3.90.3 Question
Post by: sportswizdan on October 08, 2006, 04:33:59 pm
     Hi Everyone,

I read Drew's excellent write-up on how to use "EAC" and "Lame". My problem is that I'm first trying this now and I CAN NOT find a version of Lame 3.90.3 (Stable) anywhere. All the sites are listing the new version, which is 3.97. Can anyone tell me how to get the older version or send it to me OR will the newer version work just as well, if not better? Thanks in advance!!!

Dan

Hi,

The recommendation for the 3.90.3 version (a "tuned" version by Dibrom) has now been superceeded. While it was regarded as superior to lots of later versions of lame, the newer 3.97 version is now regarded as offering same/superior performance with a substantial speed increase.

The original recommendation for 3.90.3 came from Hydrogenaudio, essentially a site for audiophiles.

As you can see here:

http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Lame_Compiles#Recommended_encoder_compiles_and_source_code (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Lame_Compiles#Recommended_encoder_compiles_and_source_code)

They now recommend v 3.97, so go with that.
