purchased a megadrive 2 (uk/europe version) off carboot sale this morning...
after seeing some pinout info on web virtually shoved r/g/b & gnd & sync into av output on megadrive flicked on cab power to monitor & flicked megadrive on & for

Yes, you'll need an amp.
As for the controller... it depends if the controller uses a microchip (the SNES does). You can't bypass the chip, so basically, yes you have to solder directly to the pad.
