Title: What happened to my car stereo thread?
Post by: severdhed on October 06, 2006, 04:08:06 pm
im not sure what happened, but i lost the ability to reply to my thread about a new car stereo.    After reading through the replies that were posted, it seems as if someone got their panties in a bunch over nothing.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone by saying FM modulation sounds like crap, i cant help it...it just doesnt sound good.

i appreciate the suggestions for securing my equipment, but welding the amp to the car seems a bit overkill, yeah nobody can steal it, but i cant replace it then either.

The ipod suggestions were good too, however i dont have an ipod and am not about to drop a few hundred $ for one. I have an mp3 player i dont use now, Im not about to buy into this trendy applie iCrap.

Im sorry if I offended anyone by disagreeing with them..but thats what happens, I asked for opinions, not "tell me exactly what to do and get mad and close my thread if I dont do exactly as you say"

if anyone else is interested, i decided that since i have a baby on the way, it may be time to get rid of the subwoofer.  I got my insurance check today, it should clear into my account by the middle of next week.  I will have to put some extra money towards it, but I think I am going to get:

This head unit:

This amplifier:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zXFoDzCM4Rv/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=108R7541A&s=0&cc=01

and These speakers to replace the polks i have now.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zXFoDzCM4Rv/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=1086010CS&s=0&cc=01

i'll leave the polk 6x9s in the back for now, and just forget about the subwoofer.

What do you guys think?  (I promise not to throw a fit if you tell me they are crap)

That program referenced makes a video dvd with your music as the audio track, not at all like a dvd-r full of mp3s which is what I would like a headdeck to support. It seems that it is easy to get a cheap headdeck that will play cd-rs full of mp3s, but with the blank media virtually costing the same and holding 15% of a dvd, I dont like buying them. Seems that everyone values the ability to watch movies in their car for some reason so all the dvd headdecks have video out and ac3 support etc, which is IMO a waste in a car. dvd-audio support would be nice since then you can lay out a disc full of audio with lossless compression and still navigate it without a video display, but I have yet to see that in a standalone headdeck.
