Title: X-arcade help please
Post by: Panzer on October 05, 2006, 02:32:11 am
Please flame with advice :)

So things are moving along great with the mame project. New problem though. Today I received my X-arcade controller and began smashing into some of my old favorite games.

It appears that after every 30 seconds or so a key got stuck. I downloaded the x-arcade utility program and was able to verify this. It seems to happen to random keys at random times. The funny thing is lets say the A key gets stuck. As aoon as I press A again it becomes unstuck.

But this can get annoying for example if I stuck holding a direction and I try to move left instead but I am stuck going right. As soon as i push right again it unsticks.

I am so excited but so frustrated at the same time. I can almost play these games hassel free!

I went into my accesibility option and turned off all my shortcuts. But I am not sure what I can do.

Send it back, X arcade give lifetime warranty I believe.
The encoder should not be getting stuck like that.  The X arcade encoder is quite reliable but as most people will point out it is not as responsive as other encoders

Is there anything I can do short of sending it back to fix this?

Just an update.

I just got off the phone with tech support and they recommended that I nuy a $50 usb adaptor to solve the problem.

What the crap! He said he wasn't even sure that would solve the problem either.....

Hopefully at some point something will go easy with this project....

I returned mine. They hit you for 10 or 15% fee. That was insult to injury.

I am currently using an ipac for my encoder and happ/wico controls. No issues.

They have a point, it could be the keyboard port on your motherboard doesn't like the xarcade encoder, it can happen.  But if that is the problem then the USB adapter will correct it.

You can pick up a usb card for way less than $50. I'd go with a via chipset.

Only other comp I have is my laptop and it has no ps/2. Wife will kill me if i tell her I have to Spend $50 MORE to get the x-arcade to work.

And one other weird thing. I bought this from Fry's electronics and did ground shipping. I must say it cam ultra fast. BUT. I am pretty sure I got a refurbished model. The manual was worn and bent up. The ports on the back of the X-arcade are all chewed up from what i would guess is attaching and detaching cords and one of the pins that you would lock your (forget the connection type) in is missing so the cord out to the ps/2 port is loose.

To this point I am very disappointed.

The Xarcade encoder is under appreciated. I have used them many times (BYOA kit) and had an occasional problem but the ammount of incident is right on par with the problems I had with the IPAC's. That being said. I may have a spare encoder laying arround without the wire harness if I do and you want to give it a shot. I'll ship it to you if you cover the shipping cost. I'll look a little later today.

PM me if interested.

Sounds like Fry's stiffed you.  I know X-Arcade are very proud about their products and have a brilliant help/support department.

If you get the one offered above and it works out ok for you I would definetely reports Fry's to X-Arcade directly, with pictures.
