I just bought a Neo Geo MVS cabinet with controls, complete coin door (wired), the marquee, speakers and some other stuff (behind the marquee was two circuit panels that looked like they illuminated. I have nothing to test it with, so if you want it, let me know) for $100 from Bullseye games in Madison, WI. They even threw in 4 new levelers ($5 each at Happ). They guy (sorry I didn't get his name) showed me how to clean the buttons.
ANYWAY... there's like a contact paper over particle board. I've started scraping this off with a chisel (I'm taking a very small shaving of particle board off with each scrap, but it's nothing noticable). This is going to take FOREVER. Does anyone have a better way of getting this thing bare?
Is priming and rolling on paint the best way to cover particle board? If not, what is the best way?
Is there an easy way to utilize the two 4" speakers that were in the cabinet, or should I just put them aside and hook up some computer speakers?
BTW, my wife doesn't know I'm doing this yet and I put the (now gutted) cabinet in the garage. She works late tonight, so when she pulls into the garage, she's going to be in for a surprise that'll wake her up! ;D

if you want the BEST way to cover it, then laminating is the way to go. try home depo, they carry 4x8 sheets for about 45 bucks. you can also try contact paper, or painting it, but if you want to really cover it up then try laminate, you can't go wrong! ;)

I stripped my hyper olympics with organic furniture strip(from home depot). It dosen't eat particle board. It softened the control panel covering with 2 coats. Don't worry about the stuff eating the wood. I covered the machine in a can and a half of the stuff, including the bare wood edges. I used a plastic putty knife so I didn't gouge the particle board(those metal edges are sharp if you catch a chip). I personally don't like the look of laminates but it is for sure the most durable thing you can put on your machine. Contact paper wears after a while. You could take a pair of computer speakers apart, cut the wires running to the speakers, wire them to your cab speakers, there by using the computer speakers amp to run your cab speakers.
