Title: Token questions

I'm converting this pitfighter cab into a Mame machine. It has a working coin acceptor for quarters.

Do I need to get a new coin mech to use tokens? Or can I get any size from 0.9 to 0.984?

I don't have any tokens at home to try so if someone let me know I'd appreciate it.
