As promised here is a different take on my Woody cabinet. You can see the original here.. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=55789.0
This one was done with black laminate on MDF instead of the stained maple plywood. And unlike the Woody there is CP art, with matching blue controls/t-mold. Props again to Mike D for the button labels that always add a professional touch... http://ironvulva.com/jump.html (http://ironvulva.com/jump.html)
Anyway for those that liked the cabinet but not the wood these pics might provide some further inspiration..

What the heck are those joysticks?! Blue supers?
Once again inspirational. Nicely done.
-
Wow nice looking cabinet! Very slick and clean design I'm impressed! Where did you get the artwork from?
-
Un-fricken-believable...again... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Can't wait to get mine started - the first Woody is truly my inspiration and the wife absolutely loves the look. That was all I needed to get the go-ahead...now I just need to find the time among all the other projects of a brand-new home owner. :banghead:
-
cant stop..wont stop !
looks good as usual
-
Appreciate that Snake.
Yes those are the Blue Supers Tim. I think they have a ball-top vibe, with only the top colored like that.
The artwork I created using a background image from the Arcade Art Library. It prints out really nice.
-
Once again I am completely humbled by the awesomeness of one of your cabs.
-
Man your workmanship is just sick !!
I'm still half way through my first build and you've built 3 in that time !!
The quality of your work is defiantly a inspiration for me to try and do the best that I can, at the moment though I'm still a long way off ;D
Did you laminate the CP edges as well as the sides of the cab? If so how did you get the corners to match up so perfectly, its impossible to see any gaps at all.
-
Thanks guys.
The CP box is not laminated. All the joints were mitered same as the Woody CP box, then biscuit-jointed and later painted.
I actually made 2 of these black ones so you will have to adjust your cabinet count..sorry about that. :)
A concerned BYOAC citizen pointed out that the front-end doesn't match the cabinet art. Thanks for the heads-up, I have now updated it..

And a better shot of the marquee was requested..

I notice you've got some pretty sharp angles on the CP. Corners like that can really hurt your hip when you run into them. Why not break the exposed edges?
Nice job.
-
Unbefrickinlievable. Nice work! I remember reading through the original woody thread and thinking the same thing. Is that a 19" LCD monitor or 17"?
-
Can't say I've ever banged into the edge of one of my CP's..maybe you need to cut out the gaming beverages. ;)
The angled edges are in keeping with the rest of the cabinet design. I tried my standard rounded -front CP on there and it just looked wrong.
That's a 19" monitor again. I'd like to move up to the 20" but the price jump for 1" is ridiculous.
-
:applaud:
Another super clean cab to humble us with, great job!
Maybe I just need to search your past threads, but may I ask what your painting setup is? No worries if you want to protect trade secrets :)
-
Awesome job, very clean and rich...great attention to consistency on the paint job, it looks flawless and crisp.
Two questions....one is, what are those 4 buttons along the bottom of the bezel? Two, what front-end are using is that custom, too?
Brilliant WORK!
-
Mike I use Painter's Touch semi-gloss black latex from Home Depot. 2-3 coats with one of those thin white foam rollers, no primer. The outsides of this cabinet are black laminate BTW.
The 4 buttons below the monitor are admin. buttons for the Mamewah front-end.
LISTS/EXIT------EMU/PAUSE
With the button labels from Mike and the new instruction card I made anyone can walk up to the machine and start a game. Really cuts down on the 'how do I?' questions when people are over.

The paint on the sides of the CP is rolled on? :dizzy:
I really need to practice then, because that looks really smooth. I was expecting to see some kind of HVLP gun or at least a basic paint sprayer.
-
Yup, try that roller. ;)
-
OK, here's a question that I hope makes sense... does the CP top sit completely flush with the CP box or is there a small gap between the CP top and the back piece/panel of the CP box because of the angle of the CP top?
Just curious...
-
Trying to visualize this question. Yes the bottom edge of the CP top is flush with the back of the CP box.
There is a small gap between the admin panel and the top edge of the CP top, because they are at opposite angles. But the bottom edge of the CP top touches the admin panel so there is no actual gap when you look down between there.
-
Nice as usual!

OK, so there's no gap as shown in the picture below? Did you cut the tops of the front and rear panels of the CP box at the same angle the CP top is sloped to make it flush? I assume you used a table saw with the blade set at an angle... I'm just trying to figure out how I should cut the pieces for my CP box...
THANKS!!

Ah, gotta love the visual. Yes I angle the top edge of the front and back pieces to match the angle of the sides.
I think 5 degrees on the table saw, you could do it with a circular as well..or a belt sander.
Check the Woody thread for some good pics of the CP box.
-
Thanks. I did check the Woody thread and from the pics it did look like you angled everything but I wanted to be sure because it's insanely awesome that you went to that level of detail. I'm going to give it a shot once I set up my table saw and get going on my next project... I think the little details like that make it so much more visually appealing...

Sorry to bump this threab but can anyone tell me if this is legit....
It appears someone is using Knievel's photos of his Woody II in a scam....

Wow... maybe it's Knievel's auction? I doubt it though...

I also agree that this might be a scam. Knievel said a few posts back that he made two of these. The auction says that the one they are selling is number 6. The pics on the auction look exactly like the ones in this thread and Knievel's website. Also Knievel is located in Canada the auction is from Australia, even though it says the location is 'Melbourne, Germany'
-
Wow, unbelievable. No it's not my auction and those pics are stolen right off my website.
Thanks for the heads up Crafty. If you haven't reported it already I'll look into it.
-
Have not reported it yet, was going to give you a day to respond to the PM. I will leave it up to you, as its from your website...
ps Happy to stop a scammer using our community, to scam others...
-
Thanks I've reported it now.
Can't believe someone would so blatantly steal pictures like that. One maybe, but to steal my entire collage of that machine..really unbelievable.
-
Holy Son of a ---smurfette---,
That really sucks!!
I can't believe someone would do that?
It would be incredibly hard to copy Knievels Machine down to the last screw like that and to word the ad so well really peeves me off!
AND he calls himself a Kiwi!!??
I reckon he has stolen those pics from here, so he could be a member?
If you are reading this you loser, YOU SUCK!
-
The auction has been stopped. Nice catch Crafty. ;D
-
Knievel your work is unmatched. Have you ever considered selling plans of your craftsmanship to help out all of us noobs out here. I would love a cabinet like your woody but i am a lil bit nervous of where to start.
-
Hah! They even photo shopped the pictures to make it look like they were actual photos. :lame:
I am trying to build one exactly like the woody II, but I would never try to take credit for Brads' awesome design.
I just got the CPO last night and am in the process of wiring things up. I also ordered the CP top from him, since he had a couple of extras. That will save me a bunch of router work and heavy breathing of MDF dust. I will build the rest myself though.
Wanted to say thanks to Brad for packaging and shipping everything in a niice fashion. I think it's safe to say he is one of those "perfectionists."

Thanks Allen, and good luck with the build. :)
I average around an e-mail a day from people wanting plans for the Woody. All I have so far is a sketch of the side profile, which I have handed out to some people here. I am reluctant to draw up full plans because of people like that ebay joker.
Speaking of, I have since found out that we were in contact with each other before he put that auction up. He was wanting to buy one of my CP tops, obviously to copy it. He also wanted plans, art files, etc...he got nothing. Here's a funny quote from our earlier dealings..
"I promise to keep them to myself, I don't think you'll be seeing a lot of Woodys down under (pun intended haha)."
-
Knievel, I contacted the seller and made a deal with him. Please send me my Woody II right away.
Thanks! ;)
-
It's amazing what some people will sell, and some people will buy on e-bay.
-
That is nuts.. I remember awhile back I designed some covers for the jackass tv series (years back now) and I had a small website up for them giving them away free of course. and some joker decided to print them on some crappy paper take some pictures and sell them on ebay the guy was making like 15-20 bucks a pop for my artwork which I had spent quite alot of time on. Then of course a few more poped up all over from diff sellers some even editing my artwork and putting in their own junk artwork as if mine were a template hahaha.. oh well Knievel your stuff is amazing and im so thrilled every time I look at yours. i just need to get my mdf purchased and get to work on my cab. I got all the other parts and such I just need to get it and actually do it before it gets put on the back burner.

Knievel-
VERY nice work indeed on the Woody II and all of the rest of your builds for that matter! Stunning really!! Amazing ATTENTION to detail. Painted inside and out and, and, dang. Where did you aquire this level of skill?
Far be it for me to really say wnything but correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't that spinner screaming for something like this?
Maybe that would be TOO many logos at that point? Also, your spinner brand may not be compatible. Besides everyhting else, I'm just blowing hot virtual air anyway!!
Again, amazing machines!!
-
Thanks guys, happy to inspire.
Those spinner tops are really nice. Randy has yet another great product on his hands.
Of course they weren't around when I built this cabinet, I'll be sure to try one next time around.
