Title: Atari 400/800 Emulation
Post by: Ed ONeill on September 30, 2006, 04:50:40 pm
Ok I know this is off topic but

The only emulation I have everdone was/is MAME. I never got into any of the other emulation .However today I picked up a HUGE lot of Atari 400/800 consols, games, cassette players, disc drives, controllers, games on floppy and games on cassettes.

This was my first game/computer system that my parents bought me when I was a kid so when I found this stuff for FREE, I was ecstaic to say the least. I have been playing games all afternnon ahh brings back memories

Now I have always said I would like to give something back to the emulation community , so that is where you guys come in ....

So can anyone tell me some good sites for atari400/800 emulation . I am specifically looking for a list of roms available to compare to the  games that I may have....I ask because I am hoping to be able to donate some roms

Thanks in advance
Ed

Ed,

First: Your parents were/are incredibly wise. It was the fantastic Donkey Kong version that hooked me to the Atari 600XL. It is still fun to see a Nintendo logo on an Atari machine/cart.

Second, don't bother. everything's been done...at least, I think so.

There's torrents full of XL/XE/800 games. But of course, you could have that one that is missing, I don't really know.

The best Atari Emu comes from Poland and is called.....Atari800WinPlus....at least, when you want a windows based emu.

Best 8-bit Atari games IMHO: Miner 2049er and it's sequal Bounty Bob Strikes Back. Platforming gaming never improved after those. Check out http://www.bigfivesoftware.com/

You're a lucky man getting that stuff for free !

Don't worry, we had a great time in the US, but indeed it would have been great to meet some of you guys and talk about our passion (I mean arcade games :D)

Let me know what strange Atari 8 bit stuff you find in that lot ! I've still got a 130XE,1050 disk drive and a real 800 PAL version.

I built a "real" RS-232 interfaxe inside the 130XE, so it can be hooked up to a PC. The PC than acts as as a server (and not just a file server !) for the 130XE using the Ape software.
But there's even much more nifty hardware for those old beasts around, The MYIDE interface connects harddisks and even more beautiful, memory cards to them.

Check out: http://www.atarimax.com/

The MYIDE is developed by fellow Dutchman Sijmen Schouten (Mr.Atari). He is THE Atari-freak in The Netherlands (and I think maybe Europe, or the Universe). Check out his site at:

He's a great guy, we've met a couple of times. I actualy beat him at getting that 800 PAL version :D But he has one as well now.
