Hey all!
Yes, I'm hammering you...but I'm very keen on this hobby these days! :)
Has there ever been games that uses buttons only!? Without any stick
at all? I tried MAWS but it isn't an option to NOT search for joystick ;D
Thanks,
Nicholas

Quiz Games (think Trivial Pursuit) don't have sticks.

Think Star Castle, too

pac-land. both joystick and button only (button only was my preference).

i find any game with a left-right 2-way joystick plays well with just buttons, e.g. galaxian, galaga, joust, puzzle bobble / bust-a-move.
i've been playing a lot of puzzle bobble lately, and i actually prefer buttons. i think i have more control than with a joystick.

How did anyone leave out Defender??

Because it has a two way joystick for up and down.
I remember playing a Galaxian cab that had buttons instead of a joystick and I hated every second of it. LOOOOOOOooooooooong time ago, probably not an original cab.

Uhhhhhmmmm, am I missing the point of this thread or are others. The point was BUTTONS only. So even a two-way joystick is ruled out, because.....it's a joystick.
Defender has a JOYSTICK for up and down. So it's not buttons only.
And don't say it isn't true, I played Defender on the original cab a couple of weeks ago for the very first time in my life, and boy was I puzzled by that weird set-up of controls. I mean, I could have lived with the accelarator button, but freakin' h#ll, for reverse even a button more. Why didn't they simply use a four-way stick ?

i took the liberty of mentioning games that can be played very well with buttons only. imo, this includes many games with horizontal 2-way joysticks. i actually think i can get higher scores using "left" and "right" buttons than i can with a "left/right" joystick.
defender, on the other hand, has a vertical 2-way joystick and is not playable with buttons only.
of course, if the op only wanted to know which games originally used only buttons, then... never mind! :)

Ahh! Good point.
I suppose all the Dance Dance revolution games qualifies as button only.

And here I thought I was being clever. I was being sarcastic -
"Except for the joystick - it used all buttons!"
... I mean, come on.
