I already can't wait for this to come out.  Hopefully it's not just Ages of Empires with the Halo Universe inserted in.  Since Halo Wars is an RTS I wonder how the controls will be?
Has anyone tried out the Lord of the Rings RTS for the 360?

It looks too good to be an rts.  Not saying it couldnt do well as one but it screams to be a fps like quake wars.  but there should be a rts of it since that is what it was to be from the get go.

maybe a keyboard will be made available for use and a mouse.

I really like Halo, the Halo books and also am a big fan of Age of Empires BUT this story pisses me off a bit (don't remember where I got this from).  I sure hope it shows up on some newsgroups in the future.

Recently at X06, the game Halo Wars was announced. Sounds great right? A way for Bungie to get thier real vision of the Halo franchise! And incase you dont know, Halo was orringally planned as an RTS game.

Except the recently announced Halo Wars game is nothing but a scheme that was stolen from aspiring independant modders, and its nothing but a money making scandal.

First off, lets start off this note with the fact that Bungie (the creators of Halo) are NOT creating this game. Who is? Pretty much Microsoft, seeing as they are in complete control of the franchise now, and are the ones who are responsibe for the recent shut down of the mod HaloGen, by a bunch of guys on thier free time who like to call themselves SlipStream Productions.

Offical HaloGen website: http://halogen.slipstreamproductions.net/

Offical HaloGen Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPlbE...elated&search=

So what happened here?

HaloGen was a project that was in development for 3 full years, and even supported by Bungie (creators of Halo) themselves for the game C&C Generals.

Recently, Microsoft (NOT BUNGIE) ordered a cease+desist for the HaloGen project. Thats 3 years of work down the drain.

Microsoft INSISTS that the recent Halo Wars game (which idea's were influenced by HaloGen and Bungie's support for HaloGen) had nothing to do with the shutting down for the HaloGen game. Everyone pretty much agree's this is bull$#@!, along wiht M$ desiciton to steal idea's, and even EA's Preditor (EA community manager for RTS department) believes this to be WRONG and for it to not even hurt sales of Halo products.

Smart move on microsoft.  Bungie doesn't have experience with RTS and Ensemble Studios does.  Since Microsoft owns both might as well give the concept to the develoeprs that have the experience.

However, it is still a RTS on a console.  I tried LOTR2 demo on the 360.  It is still a point and click genre.  Even though for console those are the best controls so far you still have to point and click.  RTS is still a PC genre until they allow mouse and keyboard control on consoles.

I don't think HaloWars will be Age of Empires.  AoE is slow.  Halo is fast paced.  Halo would not work well under an Age of Empire style RTS.  However, my bet is it will be heavily storyline based where you enact battles.

KKnD2 on the PS1 was a great little RTS and worked fine using the controller.  It is easier with keyboard as you can assign shortcuts to the different armies or buildings - but there's plenty of options for different button combos on the 360 controller to get around that.
