Has anyone met him or know? Seems that he provided plans to so many folks, I'm curious if anyone knows what he's doing. I hear him name brought up nearly as much as BYOAC itself.
-
Whoops! I meant to put this in the main section - my mistake. Please move...
-
He's a guy with great clarity of thought. :)
Really though, I am not sure. I think his plans are so popular because they are attractive and easy to build.
-
Here is his profile. (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=profile;u=327)
Here is his website. (http://www.lusid.net/arcade/)
He hasn't posted in about a year and a half, so he is probably gone for good. But yeah, like Not Lewis Black said, everyone talks about his plans because they are easy and a popular looking style. They look alot like the Mortal Kombat style cabs, but I saw him chastise Howard once for saying they were based on a MK cab.
-
When I was starting out in this hobby - his website was very very helpful. In fact, the websites I found most useful besides BYOAC were:
1. Lusids Flashback http://www.lusid.net/arcade/ (http://www.lusid.net/arcade/)
2. Sasquatch's Arcade Paradise http://www.arcadeparadise.org/ (http://www.arcadeparadise.org/)
3. Spystyle (his website is no longer available)
I've heard of some folks using Sasquatches plans here and there, but I always hear about Lusid's cabinet designs. He offered them up for download which is extremely generous.
-
Still there though he appears to have done something strange with the directories. It's now at:

He did great things for making easy to use plans accessible.
Unfortunately he did it with plans for a terrible looking cab. Just one man's opinion. The NFL blitz, Mortal Kombat cab looks pregnant in front and takes up a huge amount of space. There are classic designs which lend themselves well to MAME applications and look much better and are going to be more wife friendly when it comes to appearance and space which could otherwise be occupied by incredibly unfun dust collecting knick knacks.
-
yikes, that was brutally honest there Mark70. i don't know, when i first did my cabinet, i looked around and just wasn't too impressed with other cabinet layouts. lusid's plans worked out great for me. i think it would be interesting to see if you could start a poll on what different cabinet plans that people decided upon.
put a tally next to lusid's plans for me.

"Terrible" is probably too stong of a word IMO. I started with his design, like a lot of others, but modified it to look better. But you know the hardest part is getting started and the graph paper plans he provided were the perfect starting point, and I know a lot of others feel the same way or no one would know who he is.

I got a ton of ideas and did a lot of learning on Sasquatch's arcadeparadise site. I scoured that site and BYOAC before planning out my cabinet and the method of constructing it. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Sasquatch's awesome documentation of not only the process of constructing, but the thought process that went into deciding on things. I avoided many mistakes that I know I would have made by seeing him make them first in one of his early renditions of arcadeparadise.
I never really liked the Lusid design either.
-
I've never built a cabinet from scratch - yet. But I found Jakobud's cabinet plans much more aesthetically pleasing than LuSid's (note that lusid's is posted there too):

Joseph Elwell.

I went with Lusid's for my first build for a 1 reasons. It was very well documented in Project Arcade.
-
I have to second the comments on Sasquatch and arcadeparadise.org. This is one of the best sites if you are looking for a great design and great step by step documentation on a MAME project. I pretty much built a replica of Sasquatch's design and I love it. Every now and then I think of building another cabinet but honestly can't think of anything to do that my cabinet does not do or play. He even sent me a CD of his CPO which I thought was over and above. He is a top notch guy.

In repsonse to "Who is Lusid?"
I always thought of Saint as the father of DIY arcade and Lusid the mother :)
Would that make JakoBud their son?
Thank you all!
Craig

Heh. Um.. ewww? :)

Funny thing is I believe every cabinet listed at
1. Lusids Flashback http://www.lusid.net/arcade/
2. Sasquatch's Arcade Paradise http://www.arcadeparadise.org/
Is on the Wicked Retarded List. Which IMO is one of the funniest websites on the net.

I can't wait to finish my first cab and submit it to the net so that it can bee added to the Wicked Retarded website.

That website is hilarious, thanks!
-
Oh my god that site is hysterical. He's pretty brutal which makes it even funnier. Thanks

I should send a picture of my black marble contact paper control panel. I know he loves those, and I think he could stand to see one more ;D

:notworthy: Thanks Rampy (http://www.randomdrivel.com/) for pointing out this thread. I haven't seen Crap MAME (http://www.wickedretarded.com/%7Ecrapmame) in months. :laugh2:
Note to Saint: THIS (http://www.wickedretarded.com/%7Ecrapmame/23) seems to be aimed squarely AT YOU. :o
And finally to everyone else that might have a comment about me being "back"... I'm NOT. :troll:

That guy sure has some agression to work out, we ought to pitch in and get him a teddy bear

Actually "that guy" speaks the truth. These cabs are honestly hideous. Nuttin wrong with that except for the fact that when they are added to the database here, everyone says how great they are (saint included). Funny site, but there is a moral to be learned here.... when somebody makes something that looks like any of the cabs on the site... don't encourage them.
-
Looking at HC's latest pic I notice he isn't aging well. I guess all that evil takes it's toll.

Yeah, we ought to pitch in and get him a teddy bear
