Title: p360 wiring with optipac
Post by: dac on March 21, 2003, 02:26:09 pm
Hey all,
Finally getting ready to install a pair of P360s into the cabinet, and wanted to run over the plan with you guys to make sure I'm not screwing this up.  I'm not an expert in circuits, just want to make sure that I'm not going to blow out the cpu or anything...
the current (planned) circuit is :

I'm tying in the power / ground to a splice in the opti-pac's wiring harness.  This will be a molex connection, so that I can quick disconnect for alternate cps.
The diagram also has the power for the perfect360s from the second 5v, should I splice into the 5v for the trackball / spinner instead?  THe p360s and the trackball/spinner will not be used at the same time (seperate control panels)

My questions are, does anyone see a problem with this?  Is there a better way to do this, or suggestions?

Thanks all...
Dac

The p360's don't connect to an optipac, they connect to an IPac just like regular microswitch based joysticks. They just use special optical switches instead of microswitches for longer life and higher reliability.

Arg, I thought I didn't explain this right, I'm trying to figure out the best way to power the p360s....   What I meant, was that I have the Opti-pac plugged into the I-Pac (via the dongle that comes with the Opti-pac) for a trackball and spinner.  I was going to splice into those wires (5v and ground) to power 2 p360s...  does that make sense?
I threw up a (temporary) pict here:

Looks fine to me. You could also source +5v and ground directly from the computers power supply.
