Hi all!
I wonder how much it would cost to have an original Galaga cabinet
shipped to Copenhagen, Denmark? Of course, it would be better if it
was from someone on the same landmass or bridged, Germany, Sweden,
Norway, Switzerland etc.
I don't think the original cabinets were ever introduced in these parts.
So, what do a Galaga-fan do, without taking a loan in the house? Another
thing is, it's hard to find the cabinet without the game etc. I only need
the cab, and the CP and maybe the artwork in pretty good condition.

I played on a lot of Galaga cabs in the Netherlands. Of course that was over 20 years ago and now I wouldn't know to find a single one still, but they sure were here before.

In your situation it seems it would be far cheaper to build one than to buy, just a thought.

Saving and restoring a classic is plenty satisfying.

Considering that he only wants the cab with usable artwork and CP I assumed this was not for a restoration.

Yes, I actually just want to end up with a 99.9% correct cabinet. :) of course, it would be
cooler to have a REAL one:)
I took a look at those schematics....wow....I can't do something like that.
How much do you think it would set me back to get it made for me?

They sell kits for the woodwork too.

print the plans out and take them to a cabinetmaker and ask them for a quote

Or maybe even a local hardware store could cut the plans out for you for a fee. Only tossing that out there because most cabinet makers I've seen charge a lot.

Or even better, if you have a friend with a lot of tools, bring your wood, the plans and some beer over to his house. ;)

original one. Are there any differences?

I don't know the difference in the look between this and the new combo machines either, never thought to look for the diff.
Monitor slope and coin door hight/size look good too, but I'm no Pacman expert (or PacSpurt).

I don't know this for a fact, but I would expect that they're wider at the very least given that the reunion machine uses a much larger monitor than the original.

the combo machines are a lot deeper, poorly put together, and a helluva haevy machine...

I don't have facts, but I've seen them side by side with original Ms. Pac-man machines, and taken a pretty close look. They don't appear any wider or deeper. It's a 25" monitor in them, true, but they have a very narrow bezel compared to the original 19" version. IIRC the angle of the monitor is a little steeper, and the way the back MDF comes down to the monitor is different, but that actual depth of the cab looks the same.
I think I have some pics I can dig up if anyone really cares.

I currently have an original PacMan cab that had een converted to Galaga (full convert, not a combo thing) The two cabinets are nearly identical except I beleive there were slight differences between the front sloping parts. Compared to a combo though I cannot say but if you find plans for the original pacman you should be good to go.

Oh, and those combo machines use a 4 way stick and dedicated Galaga machines use a 2 way (left and right only) joystick. So if you REALLY gotta make this machine just like a Galaga, do that. I wouldn't though, way too limiting, gotta at least be a 4 way for pacman, donkey kong, etc.

Yes, the plan would be to add games like pac-man and Ladybug etc.
Does it matter what kind of wood I use? MDF?
What about the edges? should they be rounded or just sharp?
