Sure, back in the day we had fond memories of going to the arcades and "PWN'ing" (Back in the day it was called "Kicking @$$", none of these akronyms or l33t-speak)
But if Arcades were the Peanut Butter, then surely Movie Theatres were the Jelly! Heck, half the Arcades I went to were in Movie Theatres.
What movies do you remember during your "Life before the Shackles of Reality set in" time in your life?
I have a few I fondly remember:
Dark Crystal (Just watched this again last night)
Laybrinth
Neverending Story (Embarrased to admit that one)
Last Starfighter
Nightmare on Elm Street
Have at it!
-
Tron
Star Wars
ET (Blech)
-
Ah yes, Tron!
Star wars goes without saying.
ET..... I have a funny story about that one:
My mom took me and my 3 siblings to see ET at the Drive In, well, Batman was also playing that night on the screen behind us (My mom thought it was too violent and wouldn't let us see it) so through the entire ET feature I was the only one in the car with my head looking out the back windshield, I didn't mind the lack of sound, the action was worth it.

although I was pretty young in the 80's being born in 83 I still have alot of found memories, but my favorite movie has to be the Goonies
-
How about Star Trek II? Extra points because of the footage used in (I think) Astron Belt.
-
Revenge of the Nerds
ET
Goonies
Spaceballs
Couldn't find a Yiear Kung Fu cab so my cousin and I decided to go and see Coming to America.
-
Back to the Future
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Dirty Dancing (I was on a date, and no it wasn't worth it)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Caddyshack (It's in the hole!!)
Who could forget - Top Gun
And lets try to forget - Teen Wolf

I believe he meant Batman - The Movie. The one with Adam West.

Let me rephrase that one, I was 10 at the time, not 6 (Horrible long-term memory) and it was the remake with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson (Talk about two crazies)
-
Most I would mention have already been mentioned, but I'd like to add:
Short Circuit ;)
-
Big trouble in little China

Remember Short Circuit 2? I like it when Johnny 5 gets all ghetto:
"Postalp kick your butt..."
"Postalp kick your face...."
"Postalp kick your balls INTO OUTER-SPACE!!!!!!!"
I still can't figure why he ditched his laser cannon for that tool box.
Is it just me or was this strangely inspirational (Good part starts at 4:50) (http://youtube.com/watch?v=9ZJoPpda5Ik)
LOL, I'm a dork.

I loved that one too. Do yourself a favor, hang on to your childhood memories of that movie, but NEVER watch it again. Please trust me on this, it's just not the same.

I use to think Krull and Red Dawn were the best action movies of all time.
...Until I saw them as an adult.
I'm never going to watch Fletch again, so it can always remain the best comedy.

Two perfect examples of what I was talking about. ;D

I loved the movie The Explorers as a kid. I got it on dvd, but it just wasn't the same. Anyone know of a BYO inpenetrable/controllable bubble website? ;D

Check the Scientology homepage.

Animal House

In similar matter (from the post above):
Blues Brothers
er, GhostBusters
also, what was that movie "1943" with Belushi?

Don't be embarrassed...those are some of my all time fav movies, with the exception of Nightmare. Neverending Story never gets old! The Princess Bride is another I never tire of...though I think it was a bit later.

Ah yes, 1943. Speilbergs only comedy.
For me, its all about the back to the future and the indiana jones series.
-
And yet nobody mentioned any of the ga-zillion slasher flicks that came of age about that same time.
I just know I wasn't the only one paying for a ticket to see The Empire Strikes Back and sneaking in to see Halloween 2 or Friday the 13th, or Prom Night or whatever.
Also loved the Cheech & Chong films, at least the first 3.
Good wholesome family entertainment there!

I've seen quite a few Godzilla movies about 20 years ago (or as Japenese would say Godzira!) hehe

actually they call it Gojira, which is the original title. When American producers were told about the movie, they figured the Japanese were just saying it like that because of their accent and that the name was actually Godzilla. They just released the original Gojira on dvd this year for the 50 year anniversary of the film.
