Title: How to identify trackball size?
Post by: Wade on March 21, 2003, 11:14:30 am
I bought an Imperial trackball from ebay recently.  I want to get a new ball, mounting plate, and maybe rollers.

I *thought* it was a 3" trackball.  I assumed that meant 3" diameter.  It is approximately 3" diameter but I haven't measured it.  Then, while looking at the plates on happs, it looks like the "size" might actually be the diameter of the VISIBLE part of the ball?  Mine appears to be about 2.75" visible diameter.

How do I know which I have?  I need to get a plate and ball ordered pronto.  I'm getting a little worried about beating Bob Roberts to death with silly questions.

Thanks,
Wade

It refers to the diameter of the ball. Arcade trackballs are either 3" or 2 1/4". 2 1/4" is the same size as a pool ball. If your trackball is larger than a pool ball you can bet it's a 3".

Great, I'll just measure the ball accurately then.

Thanks,

Except Missile Command and some bowling games used like a 4" or 4.5" ball

and old school atari football and atari soccer had 4", too.
