Title: Should I at least see a picture at 60 khz on arcade monitor?
Post by: Panzer on September 23, 2006, 11:14:09 pm
So I bought a video card that does not fit into my computers slot. (sorry about the terminolgy, or lack there of of)But I do have a VGA out that is at 60 KHZ. So I slpiced my VGA cable and my Wells K7000 series cable together and now at least see some color change on the arcade monitor but there it is still just a garbled mess even when I play with the adjustments.

My question is, I know I can't run the monitor at 60khz for to long or the monitor goes pop, But to test my cable shouldn't I at least being seeing some semblance of a picture, or does it HAVE to be output at 15khz?

Thanks guys!

An easy way to test your cable is to download Powerstrip and try the arcade preset or similar 480i modes.  You can find the specifications for a Wells Gardner K7000 series at Happ.com (http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/k7000specs25.htm)
According to that, you need to  keep your horizontal sync between 15-25 KHz.  60KHz is too much  keep your Vsync between 47 - 63 Hz.  Powerstrip comes with plenty of documentation/help files, but there is a step by step write up here to make it easier.

Ken is absolutely right here..... Not only that but I hope you like a lot of very expensive monitor repairs!!

If you've got a 15Khz Monitor then feed it 15Khz......

LOL, No i do not want to start a fire! When I spliced my Vga cord there was a ton of different color wires. Red, Red with White stripe, so on and so forth... I just wanted to see if I put the right wires together until I get a comp that can handle my video card... I guess patience is a virtue  :(

From K7000 Specs on happ's site:
# Horizontal Sync Frequency: 15.1 through 25.0 Khz
# Vertical Sync Frequency: 47 to 63 Hz

If you're talking H sync you'll fry it with that card if you don't know what you're doing! I didn't so I went with an ArcadeVGA. Don't try hooking wires up, make sure you know you're right before hooking it up :banghead:

What did you expect, an out of focus image? It doesn't work that way.
