Hi Everyone,
I finally now have a flatbed scan of Pac Man sideart prepared to Vector.. anyone care to take this one on that's better than me? I can do it but it will take a lot longer than someone that's very proficient with illustrator!
If you're interested please email me and i'll send you the scan image!

I'm interested, can you post the artwork? Your email is hidden on your profile.

Whats wrong with the ones at AAL? Mahuti and tbombaci version seem perfect to me...
Have I missed something?
-
I think what tom etc were working with was the Pacanac version that someone who I can't recall was did a long time ago. When you put it up against a scan it becomes clear the art was done from a photograph and the details are really really far off.. not even close off.
-
I confirm taht there are differences.

If someone is able to point out the differences on the Pac-Man sideart, they are truly a Pac-Man freak!
Once its done, I'll be VERY interested to see the finer detail and differences.
Strange nobody made a comment on AAL just in case somebody didnt realise.....like me!

it's really hard to tell the differences when you don't have acces to the original material in order to compare.

There are certainly major differences, some more subtle than others but definately full of errors.
I'm very surprised nobody has corrected it before.
Quick question, is it best to start off using Mahuti's version and correct it? Must save some time?
-
Can someone post the artwork please so I can see the differences?
-
Just to clarify, I didn't actually trace that. I just uploaded it. Many times it's very difficult to trace something without having the art right in front of you. Regardless of the quality of the scan, real reference material in addition to the scan is the best.
-
Having looked up close at the version that's online now... I find it's unacceptably different from the "real" artwork.
-
I will do the new version in 1 day if I can get the scan. I'm disgusted that the live version is so different.
-
Hi everyone,
Has the Pac-man Stencil files from www.ionpool.net been uploaded yet? I didn't see them and I do not have the means to upload them. But they are pretty darn accurate. I cannot find any problems with them.
-
Yes, I sent them to prok and he found problems with them. I did not see them, but I could not tell you the last time I looked at an original pacman.
-
Just FYI, the art on Ionpool is the same art that is on the AAL.
It won't be long until a new and more accurate file is done for Pac Man. I have a full flatbed scan of the art that has been shared with Zorg. We are both working on it and i'll combine the two efforts.
I will share the final vector file via the AAL, but I really would appreciate people buying stencil sets from me in the future!!
Just to give everyone an idea:

This is a very early test of the vectoring of the black layer that's computer cut. This will be the base that I combine with Zorg's work (his vectoring skills are better than mine :) so the end product should be mighty accurate. This test file lines up with the real side within just over 1mm. I'll try to get it even closer before production.

Have you came up with a solution to the overlapping colors and what that means for a single peel/stick stencil? Or, is a single stencil not practical?
-
A single stencil is impossible to do and still get the original look. Pac man will require 3 stencils per side. Blue, Red and finally Black.. The picture above is just of the black layer.

For something that detailed, I think I'd rather paint the red and blue and just use a permanent vinyl sticker for the black (read: not a stencil). Or heck, even just vinyl for the whole thing (reds, blues, and black)!
That looks like a major pain as a stencil. It'd take days to pick all the black pieces off!

As long as the art is drawn the right way I can do stickers just as easily as I can do stencils.. but really, I test sprayed the black stencil and it really did come off in less than 3 minutes. there's not as many tiny pieces as you think.. 90% of it comes off with the big piece.
-
Geez...great work prOk. Ya, we owe you for this.... I can only speak for myself, but I will certainly order my stencils from you.
I have three original pac-cabs to restore, so I'll be first in line for the DL, and with money in hand at your website.
-
I just had some printed on clear vinyl....I actually went with the Multi-Pac theme, but I had no idea there were errors.
Oh well, I still love 'em
-
Hey digi-
I didn't see that multi-pac sideart on the AAL...did I miss it or is that you customized work? In any case...I think it looks great too. Maybe you can up UL it to AAL.

You may be right... offhand, it looked bad. I was thinking there was a LOT of fine detail in the black but I must have been thinking of the negative of it.
Very curious to see how this turns out, though I don't have a Pac that needs restoration.

Yeah, I worked it up myself. Found a few minor 'things' I am cleaning up. It's amazing how noticeable they become when you "supersize" them.
I plan on submitting to AAL once I'm done.
-
I'm ready to send my Muti-Pac to AAL, but I can't find a 'submit'. Can someone help me out please?
Thanks

You need to register, login and then click the link appropriate to the type of artwork your submitting.
In your case ARCADE then subcategory SIDEART. Then you will see an UPLOAD button top right.

curious on how this is going.
I will be in line for stencils

Who knows....he could be waiting on Zorg...he indicated that this was joint effort and you know how those can be 'hit and miss'.

I know, It seemed that the black layer got done quickly so I had high hopes. I have never done any work vectorizing images so I am basicly no help. I am going to start to learn though, it is very interesting to me. Since the deal fell throught on the empty pacman cabinet I was looking at I am going to have to restore the one I own (currently black) or build a new one.
-
i've been working on them.. I pretty much finished it on my own aside from some tweaks over the last couple weeks and have a test set of stencils going out for someone to evaluate.

In looking to the Ms. Pac side-art...wouldn't that be easier to stencilize (if that's a word) than Pac is?

Sweet,
any Idea what they are going to cost? :notworthy:
Thank you Pr0k

I'm working (among other things) on the PacSide art. It will be up asap.

Without having checked first...........Is this finished and up on the AAL prOk?

nop from my part. I'm curently to busy tracing for the MAMEartwork team

I too am interested in the progress of this, I just picked up a pac-man cab that is in desperate need of a restore (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=60874.0). Will you be doing the front kick panel stencil too?
-
Just an update, the sideart is done for both sides but it's only an outline so it's no good to print only to cut for stencils. I'll try to fill in all the colors soon and post it.
Haven't drawn the kickpanel art yet though :(

When you are finished with these, will you be able to print the stencils at any size? My brother in law made a mini pac-man themed cabinet (about 5' tall), and wondered if he could get smaller stencils for his machine...
-
I could try I think, but because the black layer is really really detailed i'm guessing when you shrink it that much it will lose a lot of that detail
-
Hey Brian...
If you posted the the stencil-ready art to AAL, I'm sure myself or someone else would most definitely do the colors and repost.
