Interesting lot of 4 original cabs. Regretfully 3 of them don't start. 1 starts but is also not working properly.
http://koopjes.marktplaats.nl/verzamelen/automaten_overige/52082008.html
Regretfully he sells only the whole lot in one time and asking price is way over the top IMHO.
I'd like to get the Asteroids Deluxe though !!! (IF the vector monitor is working). No space/money for the others....
Check out that Scramble cab, very different from the one listed on KLOV ! Looking at the joystick I think this is a licensed version built by Zaccaria. That is a typical Zaccaria joystick. Also the other cab (Astro Wars) is a Zaccaria product. So that all adds up.
-
Those are pretty cool. AD is a great cab.
-
I really like the artwork on the Astro Wars and Scramble cabs too. Gives that real cheesy eighties arcade feeling ! The cabs seem to be in pretty good condition on the outside. AD coindoor is pretty rusted though.
-
Holy cow, he's now offering the Asteroids Deluxe SEPERATLY !!!!
How big are my chances on getting this thing to run again ?
He says "it's not starting up for some reason".
Could be a fuse........could be the vector monitor......what do you guys thing, what should I look for ?
-
The original link has gone. Do you have some pics?
-
"It could be a fuse" is never a valid reason. Fuses only blow with cause. Don't ever buy something assuming a fuse might actually fix the thing.
Your chances are just fine. It all depends on how much you want to learn to get it going. Or if you're willing to send the monitor/boards out for repair.
-
Well, I am en electonics service repair man so that's a good start ;)
Chadtower, you're very right, I bought a non-working Double Axle. There was a whistling sound....and nothing else when powered. Ended up being the Power Supply...but fixed and working like new now...
The biggest issue is the monitor I guess. Ive read the vectors are pretty well-known for failing. What could I expect ? Sending the monitor to the US for repair is practicaly not possible for costs and (even more) risk. PCB's should be possible however.
This guy is two hours driving from me....gonna give him a call, I wan to see it.

Here's the new ad:

I think it looks pretty good actualy, especialy the PCB.
-
Any decent independent TV repair shop can fix an arcade monitor. All it is is the TV without a tuner. A vector is of course a special case but I bet you could find a local TV repair person willing to try if you also brought them the power supply and boards.
Barring that, if you're an electronics repair person, WTF, you should be able to do it just with the advice in the monitors forum. A monitor chassis is a pretty simple thing.
-
Yeah, it's that special thing about the vector that worries me a bit, but as you say, nothing is magic :D
Also, because he says it doesn't start-up at all, I think that's a "good" thing, since if he would have sound with no picture, that could indicate a monitor problem.
Anyway, hope to be able to go over and have a look at it in a couple of days.
-
I have an AD. It plays with no picture. :laugh2:
Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean the monitor is bad... I think that in mine the vector generation circuit has a problem rather than the monitor itself. That doesn't mean the monitor doesn't have a problem but if it does it is in addition to the XY section of the game PCB.
-
Used the ever favorite search here and looky what I found:
http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/asteroidtech/asteroidsrepair.html#c1
This should give me a good headstart and maybe I can even already see what the problem is when visiting this guy.....then I will put up my best "This is bad.....this is really bad....gonna take hours and hours of work .......I'll give you 50 to get it out of your way" ;)
Chadtower, I now understand why you want me to get the AD ;) HAHAHA
-
AD is a great game... never pass the chance to get a vector.
-
Well, playing a couple of them at Funspot sure did help revive my memory AND love for them.
It had been at least 20 years ago since I played a vector........
You're so right :D
-
Bite the guys hand off!
Seriously, if I had the space I'd hop on a ferry and drive to Holland to pick that machine up. They're rare as hen's teeth around here.
-
I would pass up on a regular Asteroids, but an Asteroids Deluxe... what a cool machine that is, what with the "holographic" effect with the mirror and background art, etc... Definitely a showpiece for any home arcade.
-
My first experience with any vector machine was an Asteroids Deluxe. And let me tell ya there wasn't a darn thing that worked on it. Monitor deflection pcb was blowing all it's fuses, game pcb was dead, power supply was dead, neither flourescents worked, speaker was shot. So I dove right in and with a little research and only a handy multimeter ended fixing everything, works great. (includes finding about ten bad chips on the pcb)
Well worth the learning experience and the feeling of success afterwards.
(if the price is right) ;)
I wouldn't hesitate one minute messing with any vector game now.
-
Wow, that's great to hear !!! Good to know there are people here who have experience repairing it, that is always great to be able to ask questions.
Gonna give him a call today and will report back.
RayB: I'd liked it if it was an Asteroids just as much. Considering the "availabilty" of classics like that around here, this is a rare chance to get one. Normal classics are almost impossible to find here, let alone vectors.....
Wish me luck !
-
Good luck.
-
AD is a great game... never pass the chance to get a vector.
I agree completely on both counts.

:hissy:  :hissy:  :banghead: :banghead: :badmood: :censored: :censored:
Thanks guys but someone beat me to it......seller told me he paid 400 Euro for it (that's almost $500,- I think the seller was very amazed to get that amount of money for it. That guy also picked up 2 of the 3 other machines he offered, the Scramble and don't know the other one. Only the Astro Wars is left......
This is the 2nd time within 2 months that a classic (before it was a Galaxian) slipped through my hands :banghead:
-
$500 for a nice and nearly working AD is about going rate in places where they are especially hard to find.
-
Level: It's because you spend too much time on here asking for our advice. Next time, just jump on it.
-
Agreed.
In this hobby, cash in hand and vehicle to move the item. No going to look and maybe buying and coming back for more info and blah blah... buy and move.
-
Yeah guys, you're right. That was my thoughts exactly. A lesson learned, but a hard one.

Soon you'll learn to be an act-first, ask-questions-later, impulse buyer like the rest of us. ;)

haha, well i'm not 100% sure......don't know what it is but all of a sudden the classics start to pop up here one after the other. Now there's a Pac Man offered. Asking price 1500 Euro.
Don't have that kind of money and I think it's too much too.
I am starting thinking about importing those suckers from the US or building new and selling ;)
I already spotted two defective Ms.Pac Man's in the Boston area :D

I have an AD and I'm tired of fixing it.
I went throught the monitor and it still blooms. I put new chips (including the dac) in the board and got it to work for a couple of days. I made the adapter to play asteroids on it, etc.
I think I can get it to work again. Anybody want it and a stack of parts for $350?
It's in TN.
-
I would if it were closer, bro. Then again, I'd probably just help you work on it instead.

If that includes shipping, we've got a deal ;)
-
It includes shipping if shipping means you drive your truck down here and I help you load it.
We have auctions here all the time. I'm thinking about getting it to blip a little and sell it at one in Nashville or Knoxville.
-
Sorry, it was a joke, I'm from The Netherlands so driving up there is uhmmmm a bit problematic...
-
If that includes shipping, we've got a deal ;)
:laugh2: I caught that one....
Fredster: (blooming issue) Have you messed with the HV diode in the anode lead? They tend to get kinda corroded and such. And also have you replaced all the caps in the EHT unit?
-
Blooming is probably a function of something like AC ripple in the circuit... which would tend to go with shorted diode(s) someplace.
-
I replaced all of it with a Bob Roberts kit. O' Bob told me that the tube was bad. After that, I had just lost the love you know?
I will have to find somebody that will do a tube reguvination.
-
That doesn't sound like a bad tube but I could be wrong. Keep in mind that just because the parts are "new" doesn't mean they are good. Bad new parts happen.
-
There ARE replacement tubes for some brands of vector monitors, and it's not all that costly either (until you add shipping).
Someone replaced the tube in their Star Castle.
"I contacted Joe Fenn of Richardson Electronics in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. They supply an exact replacement CRT. It was in stock. I ordered it over the phone last Tuesday and it arrived at my house Friday (today). Talk about super service! The new CRT cost me $145 after tax. I think it was a good deal considering it was brand new. If anyone is wondering, the part number is M47EAA19WS and it is an exact replacement for the 19" Sylvania 19VARP4. "
Might want to Google for them or for a US source and see if there's a tube for your Asteroids.
-
If that's the same thing from ionpool that I seem to remember reading, that was quite a while ago...
-
Delete your post Chad. That quote is from someone who restored their Star Castle within the last 6 months, and they made that post like last week.
-
No. :laugh2:
-
I don't want the asteroids Deluxe anymore.
I wanna sell it.
RayB, man you come to America sometimes. Next time you do, bring a truck and $350 American.
I think that's $3421 in Canadian money.
-
Can I sleep at your place?
