Ive tried all i know, tried all forums etc, but cant Find the KISS answer to my problem #3 of 4007
I've installed a number of new mame roms onto my cab (I've put em in mame/roms, mame32/roms, emulator/roms and anywhere else i can think.
Ive set rom directory in mala to point to every rom location (1 at a time) and run the mala games list app. I cant get new games to show up in mala.........
Ive set mala to point to mame.exe, mame32 etc. (1 at a time)
Still no joy
Is there a KISS (keep it simple stupid) reason I am having problems and an easy fix?
Now problem #4 of4007
I get the new roms to show in Mamewah but when i click on some games to play they go through the normal black screen bit then i pop back into mamewah, without the game running.
I assume it's because some dont actually work.......yet they play ok in mame32. Ive again edited my mamewah ini and mame ini files to point to right directories
any ideas?

Sounds like the version of mame32 and command line windows mame is not the same. What versions are you using?
-
Agreed, updating to the latest MALA and latest MAME got me up and running not but 5 days ago. I had a similar problem where not all my games were showing up.
-
The latest mame could fix it. What I meant was that obviously the mame32 version matches the rom set...... but the mame version 'diverdown ' is using may be different version and not match the romset.
If this is the case you can download the appropriate mame version from mame.net

I am having this exact same problem.
I have command line mame 109 (mame0109b) and the complete 109 rom set from [romsite name redacted].
I have double checked my rom folder setup in mala and do not have the "working games/with roms/etc" options checked. I also went into the advanced configuration screen to double check to make sure that the rom folder was correct.
Mala picks up about 2K of the 6K games in the roms folder. The games it does pick up play correctly. I can load up other front ends and they show and play games that are missing in mala.
Any other suggestions? I wondered if it was a problem with the XML file.
I followed the directions from this thread:http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=56010.0
step by step to set up mala. Seems like it should be a simple problem.
-
Not to insult you, but I didn't see any mention if you right clicked on the desktop in Mala to bring up the menu and select "refresh gamelist".
Have you tried that?
Hope this helps.

When I use MAME 109 and create a game list with MaLa RC7a and not have the "working games/with roms/etc" options checked my resulting game list holds 6253 games.
So I don't think this is a XML file problem.
What about your rom files? Is it a merged rom set? How many zips are in your rom folder?
-
Yes, I have refreshed the games list :D
No, it's not a merged rom set. I will update this post with the exact number of ZIP files momentarily.
-
Number of ZIPs in folder: 6272
Games mala is picking up: 1985
FWIW, I can fire up the last version of PowerMame and play all of the games missing from the Mala list that I have tested so far.
-
FYI: MaLa collects all games from the xml file, other frontends collect the games from the rom folder. If you check the option 'Only games with roms' MaLa will check if the romname.zip file exist in the rom folder specified in MaLa. If not the game will not be added to the game list. So if you do not have any option (working games/with roms/etc) checked there is no reference to any zip file when collecting the games from the xml file and MaLa should find all games from the xml file -> 6253 games.
Another question: What is the file size of your mame.xml file? My file size is 26.156KB. Maybe your xml file is corrupted in any way. Try to recreate the xml file if so.
-
Well, I don't have any of those options checked off. I definitely think it's a problem with the XML file. I am going to delete the xml file and try to recreate it. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Thanks a lot for the help, I will update this thread when I get back home.
-
For insurance, could you e-mail me your XML file, or is it specific to the system?
I have already recreated the XML file once...
-
The XML file you e-mailed me fixed the problem.
Thanks a million!
-
Great!
PS: You can create with MaLa at any time a new and valid XML file. Click the 'Create' button next to the edit field 'Rom info file (XML)':

That's the weird part -- that create feature wouldn't work. Anyway, it doesn't really matter as now it is fixed. Thanks again.
