Title: Please help name this game

It was an arcade game that had a gladiator in armor with a sword and shield.  You would battle through a stage and get to a boss character and you had to beat the armor off the boss.  It was a side scrolling action game.  Great graphics for its time.  I believe you could be a guy of a girl.  Your armor could be hacked off and sometimes you sword would break too.  I am not positive about the shield.

You couldn't play as a female, but you do fight one, and when her chest armor all falls off, she kneels in embarassment (and you win the battle!). A version of the game had her covered up, and another had her topless.

Thanks.  I was looking for it for a friend.  The screen shot in mame .88 didn't look like that.
