HI I've got a bonus almost free old cab , and I'm looking to build it into a mame paradise , but I'd like to try and use it as a jukebox too , but I'm (pretty pants) not the best with programming etc , I can run mame 32 , and that about it , what would would be the best front-end to use for mame and a juke-box and maybe a few more emulator's (sega etc) , although I know it will take plenty of time , I just don't have the knowledge , so a simple version would be gold , thanks Craig :dunno ,

Did you ck out the wiki?
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends
Spend some time and try some out. If you have any questions just ask. There seems to always be someone around to help. Also use the search feature of this board and see what you come up with. Have fun ;D

AtomocFe
download the Frontend
and what other plug n play systems you like
( I would sudjest do one at a time!)
Atomic works well with Mame32 ( other will say it is a wast of resources to do this and they are probably right but It sure is simple)
As for atomics plug n play on Mame use the one from Yoshi. ( check spelling)
I have noticed a lot of people say :
Did you check out the wiki?
I for one do not like the wiki. I get lost on that sight .
I will be back with a link to AtomicFe
some of the docs are still in French
But it is still a strong FE and we can help you along
It does have a jukebox..... I am not sure how to access it yet ... It is built in and I see no icon for it.
I use arcade Jukebox 7.0 for my music
remember Atomic will not do sub folders( meaning you can not link to other folders out side of atoncFe folder)
say you use Atari 2600 plug and play
put your Roms in the Roms folder in atomicFe plug n play folder
should be something like
c:\AtomicFE_v016\plugnplay\atari2600\roms
very simple
in layman's terms
have atomic on hard drive ( call it drive c for now) ( most PC's are set up this way)
click on your plugnplay ... ( the console system you downloaded) it will install for you
now inside your atomicFE folder
you will see sub folders
Credits , Docs, Fakemame ( just a demo of what atomic is like right out of the box)
Layouts ( I still have to tinker with this one)
etc.... you are looking for the plugnplay folder
click on that one. now you see atari2600 folder
open that one
more subfolders
covers
layout
roms
snap
Roms is the one you want, open it and put in your roms
now exit
start atomic
see the menu?
open atari 2600 ( I still have to use the arrow keys ) ( I have not changed any of the features yet) ( I am still new at it myself)
the first time you do this the screen will go black and start counting
This is setting up your game list. First time takes like 5 min . next time will be instant
pick your game and you are ready to work with the emulator
(set up your controllers and what not)
in a few minutes you are up and running and done with all the configurations
most simple FE I have worked with
here is the link http://www.atomicfe.com/

Thanks , I'll have a shot at this today (probably take a few days known me , but no hurry ) ,I have struggled with front ends in the past but good instructions here , so with fingers crossed off to work I go.

AtomicFE is really the simplest one out there to just setup. Check out his site here:

Please specify how you think the wiki can be improved. It seems pretty easy to me, you just type what you want to search for in the search box and click on search.
BTW there's a link to Atomic on, guess where, the wiki (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/AtomicFE)! I got it by just searching for "Atomic".

Frightening how if you learn words and type them into the magic tv... stuff you need comes up! ;)
-
yep.
Some frontend may not being easy to set up, but the wiki document does NOT tell, how easy/hard and wich type of setup it use. Some require setup ini files (Mamewah, even it very easy to use for end user), and other have a alots easier gui to doing the same thing (Like AtomicFE) dosent explain it on any way. Not all is not tecnical to found out, how to edit these text files, and this take simply time.
So it may need to explain the type of setup it really use, and how much time and tecnical it may require.
so the Wiki can being improve on that point.

Its just a whole new type of set up or something. I just don not care for it.
I checked it out. and with in five minutes I could tell its not for me.
Its like I just re set up my PC downloaded yahoo tool bar. Now I have Tabs???!
I do not care for them eather. I do not konw how to use them and I like the old way
I am not fond of change I am allways draged along kicking and screaming :dizzy:

If the wikki "isn't for you" then be prepared to never find what you are looking for on byoac again. Haven't you noticed that the html portions of the site aren't updated anymore and yet the wikki is updated almost daily? That is because the wikki, for the most part will be replacing the traditional html tutorials/info on this site. And since this is THE site for all your mame cab info I suggest you get used to it.
-
I'm with the group. Better get used to Wikis, what with Web 2.0 and all.

Oh I will evenyually get with it but like i said ...Kicking and screaming
this is my kicking and screaming :hissy:

Analog vs digital. It is all 1's and 0's from here on out. Fight and scream all you want, but the only constant is change.

I don't think the wiki shows if the FE has a built in Jukebox. FYI GameEx has a built in Jukebox ...and Karaoke!

in fact, the Wiki does include that info: Front-Ends (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends) supporting a jukebox have 'JB' in the other features column.
BTW. Daywane, if you're not into Wiki's, view it as a regular website with lots of information: you can add/edit it but you don't have to.
