Found a guy in my area with this item and may consider using it for my next project.
No one is sure what it was from, and I would hate to ruin any rare or desirable cabnets. This one is a bit 'unusual' to say the least. Not too sure about the desirable aspect tho.
Looks like it might have been a jukebox or something. I dunno.
OK, experts, tell me what YOU think?
-
Stripped down DDR style game or a Jukebox are my guesses.
-
I know you don't like people reading your topic without saying something. So, I just said something.
-
I'll vote for a dance game, maybe Paraparaparadice
-

Thanks for the kind words!
I didn't even think of dance games, that would 'splain the speaker hole.
This must be a failrly new piece of particle board then...
Doesn't sound like there would be much public outcry if I chopped this puppy up into a Mame box then, Eh?
-
Just looking at the size of the monitor mount makes me think it's pretty recent. If it's gutted, Mame away.
-
Go for it.
-
Why butcher if I only have to mame?
Should be an interesting project to hang a control panel someplace on this monolith.
-
I seriously doubt that anyone would have a problem with you using that for a MAME cab, but it seems a poor choice to me. After you do all the work to modify it to make it usable you'll probably wish you'd either kept looking or built one from scratch. It's going to take a lot of time and effort to get it to "look right". Just my opinion.

It would make a good television holder if he wanted to use it for 1 piece of a showcase cabinet. So, it may not be a poor choice. Lets see what he does!
-
I'd like to see a pic of it from the side. That bit that sticks out the front looks like it sticks out really far to me. Add in a pedistal CP and it would be enormous. Not that enormous is necessarily a bad thing. I'm just thinking in terms of my own game room, which is on the small side. I think it would make a terrific jukebox though.

Ask and you shall recieve...
See below for pic with a side view, the red lines indicate roughly where I am thinking of hacking away at this thing if I decide to do another Mame box. Not exactly sure how to place a CP on it. Thinking of something like MaMeNnO did on his here... (http://www.hoogsteen.speedxs.nl/Arcade/side_with_ctrlpanelarea.jpg)
Just not sure who will get the job of holding it up. :laugh2:
Was thinking of doing a jukebox but wouldn't know where to start really. Would like somethin with a cool touch screen and laser lights but that is $$$ el grande!
I kind of like your pedistal CP idea Stingray. What about making it wireless? Has anyone tried that yet?
-
After thinking about it, I am guessing this was some type of shooting game. Maybe that will jog someones memory.

D'oh!
Forgot to attach the pic! :banghead:

Actually it was leapinlew who suggested making a showcase cab out of it. I agree with him that this might be your best option on this one. I'm wondering if it might be susceptible to tipping forward if you cut too much off the bottom part.

Based on that last pic, I don't think he would need to cut much, if any, away. I have a Showcase 33 cabinet and it looks like the distance from my pedestal to base would be close to what he could do with that cabinet. I would simply build a new pedestal and attach it to that.

You have a showcase 33? I love those! I took an old Xenophobe (converted to Combatribes and converted it). You can see the build here:

I did a fairly decent write up on how to cut the plexi for a flush mount trackball.
But the cabinet started as this:
(http://tkfiles.storage.msn.com/x1pmAkndzHuOfe3aJNq1Usv02h8TOe07TobU04ZoH27P7XCyXbxO1iHdFvHcQdHwROuCeShREOMmdRYa-sSgSWRnWcnyRVctULnN3TzJh4jKucUpxhFk3UrRX67c_XjNQMH)
I built a TV stand for it and turned it into this:
(http://tkfiles.storage.msn.com/x1pmAkndzHuOfe3aJNq1Usv0xRIbhyQiOZNTzYGQuDY0Q2J7GTkCGk8bsJpJLvsOWJikIYEd7WoOGil8xISUGeGCIe4tEPbn7mkZS98R9XwiWYBOEyvxvP0fdtKr80h0V8b)
You would be doing the opposite of what I did, and building the pedestal portion instead of the TV portion. The thing takes up some room in my gameroom, but it's a popular machine.

That's a Master Baiter 4000.
:dunno

That looks really good leapinlew!

I agree that the cuts seem unnecessary. I would try to work with the cabinet as is. Either make it a jukebox, dartboard or showcase cab.
