Nice find.  I just finished reading it today.  The section on deflection was very informative.

This is a very good source of info.
In particular all those who (incorrectly) state that a monitor CRT should be discharged before even going near the monitor should read and learn.
It is high time that piece of incorrect and dangerous scaremongering was not propagated on this forum.
To repeat (again) the advice (backed up by this link) a CRT should only be discharged when there is a need to remove the anode cap, ie when the main board is being separated from the CRT.
Even then, on all currently-made monitors it will be a non-event as there will be no charge stored owing to it being drained by in-built resistors.
Note the other (correct) safety warnings in the article though!

That is incorrect! Only some currently made monitors have a self discharging feature.
