Title: What's the most amount of buttons needed for 4 player games?
Post by: Jetto Funk on September 19, 2006, 12:48:36 am
I was just looking over a 4 player diagram and I realized that my cabinet had plans for 6 buttons where this one has 4 buttons for 3 and 4.
Are there any games out there that use more than 4 buttons for player 3 and 4?
Thanks

From my searches on MAWS
Four Simultaneous players useing joystick FOUR buttons each
Four Simultaneous players useing spinner/dial FIVE buttons each

There are other games that have four or more players but are turn based so only need One or Two sets of controls

So unless your going to add four spinners you will only ever use four buttons with mame

dungeons and dragons 2 - definitely one of the best 4 player games ever.

4 buttons

If you have version 0.90 of MAME kaillera, there are hacked 4-player versions of Marvel vs. Capcom, though it's 2-on-2 tag-team style so I guess (if you're quick) you could use the same buttons as your tag partner.

I would recommend 4 buttons to be on the safe side. Check out my original control panel plan for an idea of the layout. You can get away with quite a small panel without too much 'angle' on player 3+4's joysticks using my design, whilst it doesn't look out of proportion or flimsy:

Apologies for the quality of the picture. The second was a concept for my cabinet. The third is the finished item, but I abandoned the 4-player design due to craft skill restraints!
