Title: Need Joystick game List
Post by: Searcher7 on September 17, 2006, 03:38:33 pm
Is there a list with joystick info separately covering all the games that are 2-way vertical, and  also games that use the 49-way joysticks?(I already have a list of 13 games that use rotary joysticks).

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Darren

There are four games that have the 49-way control emulated in mame:
sinistar,
pigskin 641ad,
arch rivals, and
blaster.

There are a bunch of others games that are (partially/mostly) emulated in mame, but the 49-way controls are not (they're dipswitched to use 8-ways ATM):
gauntlet legends,
dark legacy,
nfl blitz (the series),
nba on nbc, and
the grid.

There might be few others, but like I said, none of those have the 49-way emulted yet.  Plus they need high end (and not yet existing) computers to run "okay".  Adding 49-way control would slow them down even more (but might not be noticable they're so slow already).

As for the vertical 2-ways, you can use the deluxe search at MAWS (http://www.mameworld.net/maws/) and search for "vjoy2way" and "vdoublejoy2way".  (And parents if you want.)
Or look at the -listxml output for the same, but maws is simpler.

(Though I can't seem to get that search to "2-way" work).

Out of the games on that list Sinistar is the only possiblilty for me, so I'll probably have to build a dedicated control panel just for that game. So I'll have to see what others have done for 49-way.

I assume that as far as 2-way verticals are concerned there are no major titles outside of StarGate/Defender that used that set-up, correct?

Thanks.

Click the MAWS link in prior post, click on "deluxe search" on the top line, then go to "control" on the left frame, and select either "vjoy2way" or "vdoublejoy2way".  (You can also select "parents" in the "resource type" group so you don't get the 36 clones & parents.)  I can't link directly to the deluxe search page since it's using frames (actually I can, but then the pages don't come up like they are designed to).

Or do "mame -listxml > list.xml" and open list.xml in a text editor like notepad.  Do a simple search for "vjoy2way" or "vdoublejoy2way".

Maws is easier, but looking at the list.xml is more like looking at the "raw" info.

As for what is a "major title", that's opinion (IMO), and I don't want to get into a debate over it.  And you shouldn't look to "major titles", but your personal favorites.  Since my personal favorites are different than many others, I don't want to get into that either. ;)

You might want to checkout http://hem.passagen.se/robert.palmqvist/index.html (http://hem.passagen.se/robert.palmqvist/index.html) and then SortInfo in the download section. I haven't used it myself, but it looks promising.
