I need to run some cold cathode tubes and fans for my cab but I want to use a separate power supply from my PC to keep potential problems to a minimum.
I've been googling and found you can short pins 14 and 15 but it also says you need to have a MOBO attached as the PSU is waiting for a return current to it.
Is there another way of doing this? I would like the PSU to have a switch in the cab so I can turn it on and off manually.
Cheers ;D

No, that should work just fine without the mobo.

Agreed. The short works just fine for me.

Damn, I've tried this now on two power supplys and nothing happens, I hope I'm shorting the correct two, theres a clip that fits into the mobo between 15 and 16 is this correct?

Usually it's a green wire. Short that to any ground. Ground will almost always be black.

If it's not working, I don't think you're shorting the correct two

Is this info in the wiki? Seems like it should be since it's a pretty common thing to do.

gahh, the image I looked at showed 15 and 16 on the otherside of the clip, I was shorting two black wires, lol going to give it another try now, thanks again guys ;D

There's definitely an image out there that makes it unclear if you're looking AT then end of the plug or looking at it from the WIRE side of things.
When I did this (multiple times) I ended up Googling around for a good pic so I could be sure I didn't screw anything up, which is how I found that particular photo.
Good luck
