Title: Monitor issues? on my Gorf cab
Post by: NightGod on September 16, 2006, 03:49:53 am
OK, got some new boards for my Gorf game and it's at least starting to work. I'm having some weirdness when I first start it up, pretty sure it's a loose wire somewhere I have to hunt down (basically, the credit counter starts going wonky and the screen looks like the first pic below). Once I jiggle the wiring harness to the coin door a bit, things settle down and I get what you see in the second pic.

So, I'm thinking this may be a monitor issue, and thought I would come here for some advice.

Info on the monitor label:
Electrohome
Model: 19" COL GAM MON
Product: 38-G07904-00
Chasis: G07C80

sounds like you have a shorting wire somewhere near that coin door best to check the wires one by one look at any connectors, make sure there are no bare wires-touching any metal work and the screen looks like a board fault, some sort of graphic ram or eprom-don

I think you have a wire or two getting pinched in the hinge at the coin door. Are any of the coin switches stuck in the down position by chance?

As to your other problems you have either a gameboard problem (possibly a bad ram/rom chip) or a power supply board problem.

Yeah, the power supply board is very likely flaky, just waiting on a bit of confirmation on the pinouts to convert to a Peter Chou PSU. The RAM/ROM are known good, the only board I haven't been able to test is the CPU board, but I'm thinking that if I'm getting this far, the CPU board is likely good. If anyone has experience with converting a Gorf to a switching PSU and could verify the below listed pinouts, especially the stuff in italics, I would greatly appreciate it!

1   +V Audio (~13V @ 1.5A)
2   -5V @ 0.45A
3   +V Independent [~10V @ 3.5A, to coin door and control lights?]
4   !Reset
5   V.Batt?
6   Key
7   +12V @ 1.45A
8   +12V @ 1.45A
9   -Sense
10  AC Sync?
11  -V Audio [Gnd for Audio circuit]
12  -V Independent [Gnd, control lights return?]
13  Gnd
14  Gnd
15  Gnd
16  Gnd
17  Coin Counter Drivers (~8V, unreg +5V) [from coin meter]
18  +5V @ 3A
19  +5V @ 2A regulated for logic

1       13 volts for audio output amplifier -- +12 on switching PS
2       -5 volts -5 on switching PS
3       not sure about this one -- +12 on switching PS?
4       reset--  +5 volts on switching PS
5       not used?
6       key
7       +12 on switching PS
8       +12 on switching PS
9       -sense --ground on switching ps - frame or common?
10      not used?
11      ground to indicator lights --ground on switching ps
12      ground for audio --ground on switching ps - frame or common?
13-16   common for all regulated outputs --ground on switching ps - common
17      coin counter power +12 on switching PS
18      +5 volts  on switching PS
19      +5 volts  on switching PS

On second thought, moving this info to a new post in the Main forum, it doesn't really belong here now that I know it's not a monitor issue. Thanks for the help!
