Anyone else here getting the X-Arcade newsletter without ever having subscribed to it?
First they started sending it to my hotmail account (which is the one I use on forums--so, byoac could be the culprit, but so could some other site...)
I unsubscribed, then today I get the damn newsletter to 2 of my "personal" emails (addresses I use for email, but never for forums or web orders or anything like that).
Now not only will I promote "build your own" to people who even consider buying one of their controllers, but I'll also let people know X-arcade are SPAMMERS!

I too get spammed by Xarcade but my best tracking guess indicates it was GameCab.com who sold me out. If it's not I apologize but again I am pretty sure because it comes to my sneakemail address which I used for my correspondance with gamecab.com .
If you are interested in starting to track your spam take a look at sneakemail.com , it is the ONLY service on the web I pay for it's like 1 or 2 bucks a month and it can tell you where that spam comes from.
Technically you probably opted in when you sent email to GameCab.
Oh and BTW I run an opt in email list with over 2 million folks in it so I am pretty familiar with the laws.
-
I've never heard of GameCab.com
-
For what it's worth I have never sold or otherwise given out the BYOAC emailing list (technically there isn't any such list but every account has an email address attached to it so I suppose in theory a list could be compiled) nor will I ever do so for love or money. That doesn't stop someone or a bot from harvesting them if you've got them publically showing however . . .
-
I got a spam from Xarcade today too, which is the first one I've ever gotten from them. I suspect they have a bot harvesting addresses from here. Just one more reason why Xarcade sucks.

I can't stand their damn newsletters. The best was their investigative reporting about the Nintendo Wii and their evidence that pointed towards the "secret flap" being a PROJECTOR. Ridiculous. The gaming press is full of enough morons and hype mongers, how about leaving it to the professionals.

That was one of the stupider rumors of this year.

That would be cool though.

Zakk... you're not helping!

Cloaking devices, teleportation and time travel would be cool too. ::)
Somehow I think someone somewhere is manually subscribing people... I don't see how a bot could harvest emails I don't use online, yet the bot knows I'm into MAME cabs?? Weird.
(PS: I believe you saint. These two latest spams are to addresses not used on BYOAC - sure wish i could pinpoint where it happened though)

FWIW, I was receiving the newsletter before I registered here. So it probably is not BYOAC's fault. I ordered an adapter directly from X-gaming.com site, though. So that was probably how I was added to their list. A lot of their "news" is "old news" but today they had a snapshot and a link to a good looking free game. I personally enjoy their newsletter and today after reading it, I thought to myself this is the right way to spam; with a spoon full of sugar. My e-mail program could block their
e-mails but i choose not to mark them as spam.

No, but that WILL be cool! You can just set it up anywhere there is a vertical surface and start playing! BEST new innovation in gaming! I can't wait to get a Wiiiiiiiiiiii!
Where did you say you read that the wii will have a projector built in?

So it probably is not BYOAC's fault.
Just to be clear, I never thought this was Saint's fault, other than the fact that Saint runs a great arcade site that I'm addicted to. ;)
Anyway it's only one click to never have to see another email from them again.
/me clicks

Yeah that's what I did with the one going to my hotmail account, months ago. Then, as I said, I suddenly get it to TWO of my personal accounts. You can understand the impression I get of X-arcade when I stop one and then they just multiply elsewhere, right? Hopefully this is the end of it (though I have MANY more email addresses that whoever is responsible might harvest)

Absolutely. Anyone who sends unsolicited spam should have their speedbags removed with a pair of vice grips.

FYI -
I registered with X-Arcade when I bought one pre-BYOAC days, opted out of their newsletter, and have never gotten a newsletter.
Sounds like they bought a list.
