Alright, little back story, have a dedicated MAME cabinet that was fully setup with Mamewah a couple years ago.
I hooked it up to the internet 1 time to download something real quick.
Google page, and two subsequent pages, downloaded the file and then from then it was nothing but trouble.
Like ten viruses.
ANYWAYS.
I have installed windows 98 and mala and have all my roms in the roms folder
After doing this and refreshing the gamelist it says I only have lik 2000 games when there should be over 5000.
What gives? Any opinions? Thanks.

Are your rom files merged roms?
What collections options do you have enabled in MaLa?
-
I don't believe my roms are merged. How can I know for sure?
What collection options do you mean?
-
You can count the zip files in your rom folder for example.
I mean the collect options on this tab:
Only games with rom
Only working games
Only master
-
Oh, ok.
1. Yes, I do have over 5000 individual zip files in the roms folder. Therefore, no merged roms.
2. I have tried different combinations but can't seem to get more than 2000 games to show up.
Thanks for your help Swindus!

Strange ...
Do you have any filter enabled?
If so there is shown a '(F)' behind the game list name in the default layout and reset all filter in the MaLa menu:
http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/filter.html
Do you use more than one folder for your roms, any subfolder?
Please tell me your MaLa and MAME version you are using.

I am currently at work but will update all of this information this afternoon when I get home to take a looksy. Thanks for the quick updates and all the help. (I know that I can't expect quick replies all the time)
So check this thread out later and I look forward to your help. Peace!

Alrighty, the grand total I am showing repeatedly is 2162 games.
I unchecked all the boxes in the collect options tab, refreshed game list and still 2162 games.
I am running MAME v0.107 and MALA v1.0 RC7
I am all ears and patiently await any help. Thanks.
-
And you are sure all your roms are in one folder? I
OK then
are you sure you don't have filter enabled as SWINDUS suggested.?
I am not talking about the 'Collect Box'. As I just tried 'Only working games' with MAME32 and that figure was still close to 3000 not 2000.
Please advise if your filters are enabled.

No filters are enabled. Even in the gamelist editor program I can only see 2162 games.
-
OK I just tried it on Mame107u2 and copied a full romset for mame107 to one directory. When I tried to refresh the list MaLa crashed.
Error:

Sweetness - That did the trick. All is now well. Now I need to get the hang of customs lists and what not. While we are on Mala though...
How can I set it so that I don't have to scroll for days to get somewhere on my list of games?
Mamewah used left and right to go by page and the 2nd player joystick to move by 100 and 500.
What does Mala have that is comporable?
Thanks again loadman... you saved me a... load? :laugh2:

I've heard a LOAD in my days on this Earth .. :lame:
;)
You can configure it how you want.
* Scroll Accelerate/ By Letter/ By game number of games and allocate to any Joystick or buttons you want.
Don't forget you can make custom game lists of your Favourites
-
Excellent, but my boxes were greyed out. Do I need to turn on another setting?
-
The interval settings are greyed out if you enable the 'Use one page for interval' option.
If you use the default MaLa controller settings than the page up/down commands works when holding down the player 1 button 1 (Ctrl) + player 1 joy up/down (Arrow Up/Down).
Have a look here: http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/defaultkeys.html

Excellent, got it. I will now shout Mala's name from the rooftops. Sing its praise to the end of the earth. Ok, maybe not. But it is awesome!!
Thanks swindus and loadman!!!! :notworthy:

By the way, is there any reason not to check all three of the "collect options tab". Are any games not displayed that should be by also checking the "only masters" option?

Found this thread and had a question. I just installed Mala last night and when I generate a game list it only has 422 games. I found an older mame.xml file and replaced the one that was currently in my mame directory and now I have 712 games. I checked this morning and there are no checks in the check options tab. Not sure about the filter part but I will check that when I get home. I know all my Roms are in one folder and none of them are merged.
I will also post what version of Mame and Mala I am running. But I am pretty sure they are both the latest version since I just downloaded them last night. Will it make a difference that I have ROM Set .98? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Anyone please jump in if I'm wrong, but I think that makes a huge difference, yes...
XML files, executables, and ROM sets are dependent on each other when it comes to generating the list of present, working, correctly dumped ROMs. The latest version of MAME might include a certain game, and your old ROM set might include a ROM for that game, but if the game has been redumped since that ROM set was created, then the ROM is useless, unplayable, and just taking up space.
Basically, you want all these things to match.
I'd update your ROM set so it's the latest version. If that's not practical, then it'd be much better to backrev your copy of MAME so it's the same version as your ROMs. DON'T swap in random XML files, you can generate them from the MAME executable itself using command line switches (can't remember what the switch is, but I'm pretty sure it's in the docs). You should definitely be getting more than 700 games in your list, depending on filtering options, of course...
Hope this helps!

I had an idea it was that after I typed it. I will try downloading an older version of Mame. Again thanks for the help.
