Title: Automatically log in to Windows XP
Post by: shmokes on September 14, 2006, 06:01:26 pm
I've got an XP box for a project I'm building for my inlaws.  I just put a clean install of XP on it and only set up a single non-password-protected account.  It's still booting up to the Welcome Screen, though, and I need it to automatically boot all the way to the desktop.  Can someone tell me how to force XP to do this?

XP sets up a fake user account for .net for some reason.  I always just delete the account and have never had a problem.  Go to control panel/ user accounts  then delete the .net account.

go to:

https://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

and grab tweakUI.exe...there's a logon tab there that lets you set the autologin account.  Also grab the imageresizer tool, that's a useful one -> right click on an image file and resize from there...

You don't even have to go that far.
Got to run and Type "control userpasswords2"

Take the check out of the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and hit apply. Type in your account and  password.

One of the programs I supported at work had issues with the Windows XP/2003 auto-login feature, that's the only reason i know that.

Thanks guys.  TweakUI did the trick, but that command to access the Windows 2000-style user account manager is going to come in really handy in the future.

i have this exact same problem on one of the 4 pcs i run that have winxp, the only difference is this one runs winxp home.  i made sure to check the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" but it still boots straight in.  Ill check those other options.
